trespass

Ive had a few run ins with trespassers on my acreage. The best ever was the guy who told me: "Well, T-boy Boudreaux said I could go on his land"!
Then I responded: "He did? That's kinda odd cause I'm T-boy and I aint never even met you". Then ended the conversation with - "You know, I usually just run people off with a warning, but in your case, the deputy sheriffs are on their way!"

If you shoot a trophy buck and it runs on my property are you going to trespass to retrieve it? The law says I don’t have to allow you to come get it.

Kinda sucks looking at it from the other angle doesn’t it?

I would just ask permission to come get the deer. I would let my neighbor come get a deer from my land as well

The English style foxhunts in the U.S. do it right. They get permission from all the landowners, then hold a big party for all the landowners.

I wish they would run dogs more. My private land backs up to a lot of public land. The hunters have moved off due to tighter restrictions. The deer are not pushed as hard anymore towards my property. Also we usually had dogs running through occasionally during midday that we could cut-off. Always broke up the midday lulls. The probability of seeing larger ones would normally go up cause they may stir up on the pass throughs. My Buddy got one on the wall for that very reason.

And what if he says no?

Just curious to see who on here thinks it ok to trespass just a little when it benefits them?

Trespassing is trespassing. I'm not going on anyone else's land without permission, especially if I know someone hunts there. I don't want to piss anyone off, and I don't want to get shot either on accident or on purpose

then that property owner has every right to report you as trespassing if you decide to trespass

but as a property owner, someone having a wounded deer run onto my property is miles different than having a pack of hounds running around chasing deer on my property

this is North Carolina Kansas...

trying to find Miss and LA now

That is why i said REBBEER that you may be surprised by the answer

====================================
Can you retrieve a deer on someone else's property NC?

you don't need permission to retrieve game unless you have been properly notified by the landowner that they permit no tresspass.

You are to make every effort to retrieve game,

also, if you can prove that you attempted to contact the landowner, then you are covered twice by NC laws of tresspass

Louisiana's (also ND,WI,MI )criminal trespass law is very broad and allows very few exceptions. Unless some exception applies, you are in violation of the law if you retrieve that deer or run your boat onto someone else's property without permission

There is no right to retrieve law in MS. Neither the hunter, nor the officer can go on private land to get a deer if the landowner says no.

in MN, Iowa, Il, Fl the DNR officer will come out and talk to the land owner to tell them he is entering to retrieve game. They can not refuse his entering the property, but you the hunter can not.

In Iowa, NY, SD, PA you can go onto any property to recover game as long as you do not have a weapon.

in north dakota they have to let you on to retrieve game. You just cannot be carrying any weapons.

I oklahoma the landowner may be ticketed for wanton waste if they do not allow retrieval of the deer

Why is this “miles different”? I’ve had more problems with irresponsible shots by my neighbors than dogs trespassing. Why is it seen as acceptable to have a gut shot deer run across multiple properties? Take a clean ethical shot that kills the deer before it runs across your property line. If you don’t have confidence you can do it then don’t take the shot. Maybe we need limits on how much property you have to hunt period.

because a wounded deer is not disturbing my property as much as a pack of dogs? seems pretty obvious

So a wounded deer crashing around your woods wouldn’t ruin a hunt? How about a wounded deer that dies under your favorite stand that you planned to hunt next weekend? Lots of ways for a wounded deer to disturb your property. Actually a lot more than a pack of dogs buzzing through.

This thread got hijacked into a trespassing thread on the second post obviously.

Again I’ve had many more instances of “innocent” poor shots wanting to come on my property than packs of dogs unfortunately

I seriously doubt this, unless no one hunts with dogs anywhere close to you

I’ve got a lot of bow hunters around me on smaller plots mixed among ag fields at my house. Twice a season somebody wants to check on my place. So you’re right nobody runs dogs around here. Everywhere else I hunt dogs are common. I’ve had a couple of lost dogs wander through while I was on a stand but never the Wild West people get within a couple hours of Baton Rouge of dogs running them off their stand.

No. Considering the amount of times I’ve killed deer on back to back hunts, in no way do I think any of these instances would be as disruptive as a pack of dogs running deer on my property.

They are not remotely close in comparison.

I can prove that deer don’t disappear when dogs chase them….they come back so I’m not talking about back to back hunts

I’ve had to drag off a rotted deer on my place that I didn’t waste and nothing is as disruptive to me
