While that may seem like a good idea to some, The dog shouldn't have to pay for their owners being trespassing assholes with no regard for others in an area.

We quit calling the owners...

We feed them well(most of these dogs look like death) ...POS owners should be arrested for animal cruelty IMO and whoever lives farthest from the deer lease take the dogs to their local animal shelter back home(usually about 150 miles away) and say they found the dogs roaming on a back road nearby.

hopefully they get tired of making that trip...but we've had the same dogs "lost" on our property a month later only to go right back to a shelter

My dad’s old rabbit hunting buddy had this on his back window and tailgate of his truck. Dude is crazy but a damn good rabbit hunter.

Man I really hate these threads. I miss running dogs so much. I hate me a sloppy dumbass redneck as much as anybody, but damn I miss running dogs.

Every single one of my best hunting memories were dog hunts. I feel bad for those who never got to experience what I did, and I hate that my kids will never get to do it like we did. You can't put a price on those memories.

We quit doing it because its damn near impossible to do these days, and its a shame that such an old tradition is dying. Watching trail cameras and guarding feed piles will never compare to the excitement of shooting a buck on a dog hunt. Its a team effort, and a person walking up could hardly tell who the lucky hunter was for all the smiles.

Count me in the minority, but I think we should all be running dogs with our families.

Ain’t nothing better than hearing those dogs open up

I’m a trashy old pussy who will shoot a button buck with a crossbow so my hunting morality isnt exactly mainstream

Like I said, shame everybody doesn't get to do what I did. Its pure, grade A premium real hunting.

You haven't lived until you've made it back to camp with a dead buck and 20 people dying to hear the whole story over and over again. The sport was better when everybody ran dogs. I've done everything from western public land to private land corn pile guarding, and those dog hunts are still the best memories.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was hearing my great uncle blow "dead deer" before anybody had cell phones.

Things are certainly easier these days with the tech, but hunting I feel peaked in the early 90's.

I agree and those hunts were awesome and I want to bring my daughter on a dog hunt this year just so she can experience it.
The problem is most places and most dog hunters try to turn a 12 pack of walkers loose on 100 acers right up in the middle of property that is being managed and then claim dogs can’t read signs.

You don’t have to hunt with the tech if you don’t want to. I often will just walk into the NF with my rifle and camping gear for a few days.

This is more my style. I'm not going to bait, sitting on a feeder isn't hunting it's fishing. This dog thing is something I have no history or knowledge of. I go into the woods. I scout places I think are good. I climb a tree, and I stay awake. It's awesome. I try to pick the right tree/spot for the weather or time of year, but you never know where they are going or coming from. That's the beauty of it. Not scaring them up with dogs or watching 5 of them at a feeder but being all disappointed because the big one isn't there. To each their own though.

I hate how all dog hunters are grouped together as lowlife piece of shite hunters. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of dog hunters out there like that but not all of us are that way. I still dog hunt because that is the way my grandpa raised us up hunting and we are still able to do it today. We care for our dogs like they are our kids. Yes we have the fancy gps collars and we do absolutely everything we can to keep dogs off our neighbors. But sometimes it happens and I feel horrible when it does. We don’t want them on other peoples property no more than they do. I guess all I’m saying is please don’t judge us all as soon as you hear we like to dog hunt because there are still some good groups out there.

Maybe not. I’m on 50 acres and the only problems I ever have with hunters are people running dogs. The sense of entitlement from them on my fricking land is outrageous.

Put up a fence
How about the people who want to run dogs put up a fence to keep their mutts on their own property?

Most people wouldnt give a shite if the neighboring property owners/lessees were running dogs on a property that was fenced to keep the dogs in.

My 240 is surrounded by NF in MS. I love a good race as well as the next guy. Im chaining the logging road through my place to keep trucks off, but I love the hounds chasing deer. God bless all the deer hounders, and the hounds.
