I just came by to see how the dick measuring is going? Who is winning, hounds or no hounds?

My private land backs up to a lot of public land. The hunters have moved off due to tighter restrictions. The deer are not pushed as hard anymore towards my property.

What public land baw?

I’ve learned there’s only two ways to hunt

1) terrorize the deer and adjacent landowners with packs of wild dogs while fat rednecks fire wildly from their vehicles

2) protecting a pile of food from tame deer in a heated box blind from a barcalounger

Yep. And nowhere in between.

One side needs help to dominate a docile animal. Pretty sure we know who swings low.

Then you don’t get to retrieve your deer, but the same courtesy would be returned if and when he (or someone hunting his property) wounded a deer that ran onto my property

Unpopular opinion:

Nobody is hunting. Should not be called hunting; be it still or with dogs.

I have no problem with killing deer (they are delicious). But don't call it hunting unless your walking the ground with a recurve and feather sticking out the top of your hat.

Otherwise just say "we are going to kill some deer."

I think you mean succinylcholine, a paralytic drug.

Such a sissy way to hunt. Those laminated limbs with the recurve design created to improve arrow speeds, fast flight string for durability and speed!

Nah. The family sold the land and bought a much larger property if I'm not mistaken. His dad is an elected official, so they tend to not go tit for tat. I would have a freezer full of steaks though.

No matter which side of the fence you're on, this is just silly.

So you're saying every time any of us go out that we are guaranteed a deer?

I tend to agree. Most “hunters” are simply waiters.

I am not really passionate about the position either way but it is fun to get a rise out of folks. But while I am dispassionate, one must admit that with modern tech and very liberal laws concerning baiting calling it "hunting" is a bit of stretch.

It has changed tremendously even in my 43 years. I remember hunting (still) for my first 3 years without even seeing a deer from my stand.

But back then deer pop wasn't what it is today (in GA at least), baiting was illegal, only kill does on certain weekends, no trail cams, poorer optics, not nearly scent control, lures, etc....

Hunting just wasn't the industry that it is today.

I agree. 49 here and I hunted with my dad and both grandfathers from the time I was old enough to walk. Up until I was about 16, I remember seeing 2 deer while in the stand.

Then we built box stands to stay comfortable and "hunt" longer. I still hunt the same property and see deer on almost every hunt. But like you said, back then there were no feeders, food plots, cameras, etc.

There is nothing more American than deer hunting with dogs. Why?

It is a small freedom that makes little impact on the whole pie, but it triggers the hell out of some folks.

Good luck with your dogs and stay safe. I don't do it but I respect the right of the few to bear arms and harvest.
