That's a Malibu Kayak, not an Ocean Malibu.

My buddy has a Malibou and it's a good board. Fast as hell. Tracks great. That big circular hatch by your feet is cool too. It's true dry storage molded in and he actually throws ice and drinks in there.

Ram mounts came out with a visibility pole to compete with the yak attack version. What differentiates theirs is the light source is a flashlight you can remove. Looks pretty cool, want to see price. Link to FB video LINK

It's not one or the other. This thread really isn't for the poors.

Prices are getting up there, but I think you're assuming one is preferable over the other. That's not the case. While kayak fishing initially kicked off due to lower price of entry and ease of transportation, now a large segment of the kayak fishing market is people who just flat out prefer to fish from kayaks vs a boat.

Plus, a kayak requires virtually 0 maintenance and for people without any mechanical inclination, an outboard is just something that can and will break.

I use my kayak for fishing when I'm fishing small water, rivers, or when I'm time limited and know I can't go very far. Otherwise, I have a 15' flat-back canoe with a small motor and a trolling motor that gives me the portability aspect of a kayak but virtually unlimited range and the ability to fish 2 people. It fits in the bed of my truck so no trailering required. To me, it's the best of both worlds.

I'm not thinking in terms of blown money, Hell we have all done that on a grand scale with stupid stuff in the past. I'm thinking on the level of physical excursion equal to the dollar spent. Who the hell wants to pay that kinda money to paddle around and work so dang hard on what few days we have off to enjoy the outdoors!!!! 99% of outdoor products released in the last decade have been to ease physical stress in the outdoors......now this. Lol

For me, there is a tipping point. I haven't exactly figured out what that point is but I've certainly looked at it from a bang for my buck standpoint. I've often said before I'd spend some of the money on some of these new pedal boats I'd be on the lookout for a used Gheenoe Classic.

I got into doing this because it was cheap, I could back up to my shed, throw my $600 Ascend in the truck with the rest of my gear and fish practically anywhere, no fuel expense, no maintenance, just go. I eventually realized that I just plain enjoyed doing it and I became less worried about absolutely having to catch fish and learned to just enjoy being outside, mostly alone, in absolute silence. The physical aspect does not bother me, even paddling I regularly do 5+ miles fishing.

I think the bang for my buck thing still holds true though, 3 years later I've upgraded boats but they've still been bought used and at good deals. I later sold the Ascend and bought a Slayer 14.5 and later a Cuda 14, I have something like $1800 tied up in both of those boats, and could probably get most of my money, if not more, back out of them if I sold today.

I do want a pedal drive boat but I don't see myself ever purchasing a brand new one, though the Cruise FD has peaked my interest.

That, plus you need a SOT to go with.

I'll either end up with a Jackson Coosa FD or that Nucanoe. I like the blank canvas with the Nucanoe.

What makes you not list Native or Wildy? I haven't liked anything I've seen from Jackson other than maybe the Mayfly.

I like the fact that the drive will pop up. I fish a lot of shallow water.

Being new to kayaks, and currently just paddling a cheapie, I like the looks of that too. Looks like you can just flip that up like a rudder. That would eliminate the biggest pedal drive con for me.

I'll wait a year or two to see if there are any kinks to work out.

Maybe I'm missing something, but my Native flips up.
