Building my AR10 lower and ran into a problem. My AR15 tool was too short. So while I was preparing for ritual sepuku, I had an idea.
I made a tool out of a chop stick. Problem solved.

SLR put together. Now for the rattle can paint job. I found a Leupold VXR patrol 1.25-4 at Jims in BR. Since it was a discontinued scope they sold to me for $549 OTD which I thought was a pretty good deal.

Be careful and don't mix DPMS and AR10 parts.

Also saw that Leupold has a 2-10x42 in the vx5 hd that I’d bet would be awesome on an ar10.

Leupold needs to get better reticle on their middle tier scopes. A firedot CDS isn’t gonna to get me to spend $1500 on a scope.

The SPR firedot on the older VXR’s is better than some of the shite they have out now.

Paint job done. Didn’t turn out too bad.

Took it out to shoot today just to get it zero’d. My adj gas block was cranked all the way in and I forgot my long Allen wrench. I was able to get it on paper and a pretty good 3 shot group.

You don't have to stake castle nuts unless you just have some fetish about "mil-spec", which your rifle isn't to begin with because it doesn't have a three round burst.

Sure they're viable but there are better options IMO. I have a DD Lite on my primary AR and I'm not going to bother with changing it to save a few ounces, but if I was building one today I'd just do a top rail with M-Lok.

would you buy a rifle with a full length quad rail?

i've read about the "cheese grater" effect, but there are ways to limit that. seems like the main issue is weight.

Why on earth would you want all that useless weight?

I frick d up a plenty lol. Luckily it comes off with some brake cleaner. The stencil kits from weapon works are great. $25 for a rifle. For this one I started with the lighter sand color paint as a base then went green, then brown. It’s pretty easy once you get the method down.

I would send this back for something better given the rest of your build.

Cause individual rails are $20-30 a piece if you want to add something.
