I built one about 6 months ago with a 7.5" barrel. I think the barrel is way too short. I put a kak can hoping it might help with the muzzle blast, but it did not. I purchased a 10.5" barrel and will install it and try it out. Aero Precision was the mfg.

I would stay away from any 5.56 firearm with a barrel shorter than 10.5". Anything shorter and you are robbing the 5.56/.223 of the one thing it needs to be relevant, speed. It will be OK for punching holes in paper, but if all you want to do is put .224" holes in paper you'd be better off using .22 LR.

As other have said, 7" 556 AR's are not fun to shoot because of the muzzle blast. Linear compensatory is a must. Everyone at the range will hate you.
Have you considered a pistol caliber? 9mm or 22lr? I built a 6.5" 22LR AR pistol. Use a Boonie Packer better mag adapter to use S&W MP22 mags. It's one of the most fun guns I have to shoot.
