Whats up OB, can somebody point me in the right direction for a good buffer system and weight? Looking to try and mitigate recoil as much as possible (yes I know there is almost none to began with, but I want it shooting even flatter). My understanding is that some of the nice springs and weights work more effectively than the cheaper "mil spec" buffers and buffer tubes. If not, please inform me.

I'm no expert but I've heard the best way to do it is to start with the heaviest buffer, I think they call it the H3, and work your way down until the rifle functions normally and reliably.

The standard buffer "steps" are:
Carbine (3 steel weights) - ~3 ounces
H Buffer (1 tungsten, 2 steel) - ~3.8 ounces
H2 Buffer (2 tungsten, 1 steel) - ~4.7 ounces
H3 Buffer (3 tungsten) - ~5.6 ounces
For comparison purposes, a standard rifle buffer is longer, of course, and has 5 steel weights and a steel spacer, weighs ~ 5 ounces.
The Vltor A5 system, which is a hybrid between a carbine and rifle buffer, has 5 buffers up to "H4" weighing 6.83 ounces.

Or just go with a H1 or H2 and call it good. Buffers aren't about recoil, they are about dwell time and giving the cartridge enough time to shrink from obturation in the chamber to allow reliable extraction without over working your extractor. Too light and you risk the extractor jumping the lip or tearing through the rim, too heavy and you risk short-stroking.

This is a 200 plus page thread?
I was just curious if any anti gun people tried to wade in here and bash the thread or the weapon?
I am not one of those people. I love pistols too much to try and piss on AR's.
Just curious.

How about just putting a good brake on it?

I think they avoid the OB like the plague. They maybe retarded but mostly aren't gluttons for punishment.

This is probably the best starting advice. As Prop will tell anyone who will listen (
So, it isn't optimized for anything and just overgassed as hell. The first step most can take to manage this is to increase dwell time with a heavier buffer. Not all, but many carbines are going to benefit from an H1 or H2 and will function more smoothly with it. Bolt bounce doesn't really come into play except for fairly rapid semi or fully automatic firing cycles, but heavier buffers can manage this phenomenon as well.
Buffer weight is to primarily tune the dwell time, as you say, to optimize the buffer cycle for reliable extraction and chambering.

600+ and going strong. AR15s far more adaptable and customizable to the point that any forum you go to it's like that. A good example is longrangehunting.com. those guys comprise mostly F class, long range marksmen and elk hunters yet they have an entire section for AR rifles. The owner put that section in with a poll showing half his members owned one and half of those that didn't were in process of getting one. Those are guys with very high end bolt actions and big into exotic calibers.
I have seen estimates of AR owners from a low 3.8 million to 10 million. I seriously believe it's closers to 10 million.

They rarely venture here as it doesn't help their narrative. They stay in political and OT.

Where can I buy a vise block in BR?

Academy in Auburn sells them in store. Might be the same in BR.

From the learn something new everyday files. Learned the other day you could pop out the safety selector without removing the grip.
