They didn't ban parts per se just the manufacture of magazines that held more than 10 rds. There were plenty of parts available.

Hey guys,

Got my first AR a few weeks ago. A Colt 6720. I'm trying to plan out my upgrade path.

Trying to figure out a new handrail to put on it and having trouble deciding between an MLOK and a keymod.

Looking at this:

vs. this:
LINK

I like the fact that the keymod holes can be used as a QD. Other than that, I'm not sure what the advantage of either are. The only thing I KNOW that I'll be attaching to the hand guard is a grip pod, which I think only attaches to a pic rail.

Given that I can buy a section of pic rail and attach it to either handguard I don't see a real advantage to either one.

Just wondering if the ODB had a practical preference on Mlok vs keymod other than aesthetic preference.

You sure you can replace your hand guard with those you posted?

Carson had an informative post a few pages back in regards to mlok vs keymod. Either way, you will need to replace that front sight block with a low profile has block.

Yeah, I'm leaning more towards grinding the FSB down to make my own low profile gas block rather than buying a new one.

Colt came out with a limited ed. version of the 6720 a few years ago with a quad rail on it instead of the regular handguards. It came with the regular FSB chopped from the factory to fit in the rail. I figure if it's good enough for Colt it's good enough for me and will save me a few bucks.

Time for form 1

What do y'all put on form 1 for total length? Does it need to be exact? I'm planning on a 10" 556 upper

I may be completely wrong but I didn't think you could buy a collapsible stock during the previous ban.

You could buy a collapsible stock, so long as you didn't install it on a post ban rifle.

You could buy them but I lyrics to install on preban. Magazines posed a little different issue. For instance one could buy the springs, followers ,floor plate and even magazine body. The ATF stated that if you could assembled a new one only if it replaced an already damaged preban magazine. So if you had say 3 preban 30 Rd magazines and they were damaged, you could in essence replace them by assembling new ones.

I've been told you don't wanna go less than 10" barrel for 556 SBR. Is this accurate?

Also, in form 1, what do y'all put for overall length for 556 with 10" barrel. TIA

You lose lots of velocity. I would go as short as 10.3 inches if I was to build a true to spec Mk18 but I don't think it is a good idea to go any lower.

Will I keep full velocity at 10.5? I want to go as short as possible while not losing performance.

You will lose velocity. It will absolutely still be lethal though.

With it loosing velocity does that make it better for a can?

A can adds velocity but not too much. Shorter is better for compactness. Shorter adds more wear to a can.

If you're going to do an SBR and a can why not just go to .300aac?

ETA: my .300 is an 8.5" barrel.
It's so quite suppressed. A 5.56 won't be.

And yeah, I agree with bbvdd. .300blk doesnt lose much velocity as you bring down barrel length and is suppresses very well. Ammo is more expensive but it is a phenomenal cartridge.

I was mostly choosing 556 over black out because of ammo availability and prices.

I understand but the sound of the action only vs the sound of the crack of the bullet makes the .300 so much more worth it.

Damnit. Making me second guess it all lol

What is the shortest I can go with 300Blk?

Once I have my lower and stamp, can I put any SBR on that one lower? I've read conflicting things...
