and.. fwiw..
my hounds Chessie and a GSP.. are pretty good...
I'll put my GSP up against all but the best field trial retrievers.... and that ain't even his "a" game... pointing is...
chessie finds an awful lot of birds that other dogs miss. or lose....
after seeing many in action... the pointing breeds... pointers and gsps have much better noses than retreiver breeds... and are better markers.. they just aren't made for sitting still in a duck blind....

After posting in this thread the other day, Tank was running around like a goober in the front yard (like always). He caught sight of a squirrel and treed him. Stayed there baying for the longest time, I guess he realized I wasn't coming to kill it. I just wish I had time to properly train him.

GRHRCH"PEKE"MH QAA SRS finalist
(Not my dog, I was lucky enough to be allowed to handle her)
Her sire was a fair dog also:
2xNAFC 2xCNAFC/FC Ebonstar Lean Mac
Back when we were running the SRS alot, Jerry Day had a bitch named "Super Sue". At the time she was THE most titled field retriever alive. The only title she never obtained was the Grand. You were running for second place when Jerry and Sue were running.

I had a catahoula could track like a machine. But he would never bark so it was hard to keep up. Should have tied a bell to his collar.

Nice. Looks like we have a winner....

Guys,
There is no "winner" in this thread. We all have dogs and love them to death, owning/training a dog isn't and NEVER should be about my dog is better than yours.
If you want to train to win, buy a horse.

My Chi-Weenie would win the contest for fastest time destroying any toy with a squeaker in it.
My lab could probably win a contest for fastest dog from the gate of his pen when I let him out to the ditch where my grandmaw dumps her food scraps.

On Sentry Duty.
He was standing in that spot ten minutes ago watching my kid in the back yard when he spotted a german shepherd in my neighbors back yard coming towards the fence. The growl was pretty damn scary sounding so I let him out. He hit that back fence in about two seconds going off on that dog keeping himself between it and my daughter.
He would hunt if I allowed it. Ever time he smells pigs he goes ape shite pissing and snorting and tearing up the ground and shite. Just doesn't know why he's doing it.
Black Mouth Cur. Finest dog I've ever owned.

I bought mine to hunt wild hogs but my wife is so attached to him she would put me out of the house if something happened to him.

My oldest dog sleeps in my bed, my female sleeps with my son. The puppy (2 years old) sleeps in the cage. We had a new baby on the 25th and the puppy is claiming dibbs...

Tell her she needs to fill in and trail the hogs if the dog is not allowed.
