My last two trucks were F-150’s: 2004 Lariat and 2011 Platinum. I want to keep a truck a long time but got tired of things going wrong. Went with the Tundra and love it. Also, I feel like the big 3 overestimate their MPGs where Toyota is spot on with theirs, so the difference in fuel economy is smaller than you think. Buy a Tundra.

Afford a Tundra?
I just bought a 2019 with SR5 trim package, dealer upgraded to 20” aluminum wheels. No stinking moon roof, no leather. 5.7 engine that runs like a top. Dealer provides a lifetime drive train warranty, no mileage limits. Gave me 5000 for my 2006 tundra with 284k miles. 36000 out the door.

I just got a 2018 Lariat white platinum with tan leather with the 5.0. It has a rattle on deceleration (look it up), sounds like a diesel sometimes, and is kind of a dog with the 3.31 rear end.*

Get the 3.5 and at least the 3.55 rear end.

*I came from a Yukon Denali AWD with the 6.2, so my observations maybe slanted, but my dad's 2016 3.5/3.55 has better pep than my 2018 5.0/3.31.

The 3.5 (and GM’s 6.2) is always going to be faster than the 5.0 but the 3.31 is probably what’s really killing you.

My Tundra was built in Texas. But I wouldn’t be afraid of the F150–just don’t worry about getting a sunroof in a truck. Save the hassle and money.

I average about 15.1 mpg with the 5.7L. It has plenty power although it’s a heavy truck. It’s probably the slowest full size truck aside from the naturally aspirated V6 or the Chevy 5.3.

helped my nephew buy a new Tacoma this weekend. 2019 TRD sport 4x4 MSRP was 41k (had extras like step rail, toyota folding bed cover, trd exhaust, etc). MSRP was $41k

41K for a Tacoma? I don’t know if “helped” is the word I would use. Hell even 31K seems outrageous for a woman’s truck.

My 2017 lariat has the moonroof and I am pretty sure that is that is what is making the knocking sound in the cab.

My twin panel sunroof loosens up occasionally and causes a knocking sound when I turn and hit bumps. I have to open it up and close it all the way back and that fixes it for a while.

If you would actually read, I said the MSRP was 41k (said it twice). Not what we paid.

But I'm guessing you haven't priced a truck in a while based on your comment.

Toyota does not come off the sticker or MSRP too much. So you probably paid 35k-37k for a truck that’s not even full-sized. So don’t get so cocky

Get ready to replace the track system. Dealer told me track system is 1k or so. If you have to replace the entire moonroof it will be 3k. I'm bringing mine in before summer because it is making the same popping/grinding noise it did the first time.

Do people use them? I have never used a sun/moon roof in any vehicle I have owned. Can someone tell me what they use them for?

:dunno;
But everyone in this thread has problems with theirs. OP shouldn’t avoid the F150, just avoid the sunroof.

Had a Ford dealer tell me yesterday that Ford has addressed this issue in the 2018+ models with new seals...

Could be the salesman is just telling me what I want to hear... damn I hate dealing with salesmen and the whole auto buying experience... it’s time for auto dealers to do away with salesmen and just post the lowest price so people can just buy online by searching and sorting like we buy everything else...

I'm personally keeping my old truck until I no longer have to deal with these people to buy a new one. Might be an antique by the time that happens but so be it.
