I have passed on these things for a long time letting buddies take them but this was the year I wanted to kill one and I finally got it done after 3 9 hr trips from Baton Rouge to South Texas! Morning hunt started with me bumping 3 cows that were beded down on the way to the stand so I figured it would be a good morning. First 45 minutes of shooting light was real slow with only 2 doe and 12 Javi’s milling around. Then about 7:20 one of my target bucks stepped out and I was thinking real hard about pulling the trigger when I noticed something large and dark step to my right. He was facing me so my only shot was center chest and I took it. I put two more in him once he turned just to make sure he didn’t run into the brush and I anchored him in the middle of the Sendero!

Pics of the buck that was out.

They are way better than deer to eat. Weight is anywhere from 300 for a cow to 750 for a mature bull. I would guess this one to be pushing 450 to 500.

one of my field guys shot a nice bull last month, he picked up the meat this weekend and brought me several packs of ground and some steaks. Anyone got recipes?

I order the backstrap online from broken arrow ranch every so often. Cook it like beef. Salt, pepper, medium rare. Delicious.

They were brought into the King Ranch back in the 30’s and have grown to around 20,000 around the area. There is a big ranch that borders us that is low fence and they bring in all kinds of stuff that ends up on our place. All 4 sides of our place is low fence and I think there’s is 2 or 3 sides low fence. So far I have seen:

Spotted Fallow
Scimitar Oryx
Axis
Texas Dall Sheep
Black Buck

The Axis and Nilgai have been here forever and the rest of the stuff was brought in by the Bank leasing the ranch behind us.

I imagine a regular 5 strand barbed wire fence isn’t shite for them to jump. Never seen one in person
