re: New rifle scope

You never really said what this will be for...hunting, range work, do it all, etc. will you be carrying the rifle, do you like to dial or holdover, etc.
Assuming do it all, I have a vx6 2-12 on the rifle sitting next to me in the blind. Not too heavy to carry (but not super light either) Had the crosshairs on a doe at first light this morning. No problem. was even able to quickly discern the small rack on a yesrling buck as he came through the brush in the near dark.
Have also shot Steel out to 700 with no issues.

It will mostly be a scope for hunting out of stands and i would like to start dabbling in some long distance shooting. Seems like the general consensus is between the meopta and the vx 5 or 6. It will be going on a 7mm rem mag so im leaning towards the the adjustable turrets over the reticle holdover.

I put that exact Optika 6 on my 13 yo’s Christmas present.
So far so good. He’s knocking really tight groups with it on a Ruger American in .308
I will say this- it is VERY heavy. For me, that’s a plus because it will help bring recoil down.
Also- the windage turret is NOT lockable. So you will need to be concious of moving it inadvertently.
I just have a little sticky note on his stock so he can make sure to visually check 0

Stay away from the Leupolds under the MK5 if you intend to dial. I've owned 3 VX5HD's and 2 of the 3 had to go back to Leupold for turret issues. I know I will get downvoted by all the Leupy fanboys on here but for a dialing scope they just don't stand up to it. Their MK5's have a different erector and do dial reliably. Its sad too bc like I've mentioned on here before, if they would get their heads out of their asses and fix their erectors, then the VX5HD 3-15x44 would quite possibly be the perfect hunting scope

Hasn't been mentioned but put a Trijicon Credo 2.5-15-42 on my Savage Ultralight for hunting last season. It's as clear as a VX5 and has illum reticle for $900. It is their new hunting scope line and been very impressed. I killed a deer at 300 yards no problem in January.

Like some have said, I prefer a simple scope for hunting and I keep my shots inside my maximum point blank range. I don't want to be adjusting focus and elevation in the heat of the moment.
I won't get into the debate of what distance stops being hunting and becomes shooting but when you get down range it becomes more difficult to find exactly where your target was standing in order to locate those first couple drops of blood.
