Looking to buy a pistol. This will be my first experience with this.
Where is best place to shop for this? Please consider price, product availability, product service, customer service.

Go to Bass Pro and handle anything that catches your eye. Figure out which pistol feels best in your hand. Go home.

Order online and ship to nearest FFL.

Spend savings on ammo.

You not going to be saving the amount people claim just because you ordered online. If you plan on saving by buying online, you have to find who has free shipping... no Cc fees... etc.

I'd find what I like and search local. Bayoushooter is a great resource and you can find damn good deals w/no FFL check. Good sellers will do a bill if sale, picture of your license and won't deal with people that even look shady.

Are there ranges in BR that allow you to shoot some of their guns? I wouldn’t just want to hold it, but shoot it too.

I order online these days. It sounds like you may be inexperienced at the gun thing. So… in your case I would suggest maybe Jim’s or Hebert guns. Yes, it will cost a little more. But there will be a wide verity of guns to handle & people who USUALLY know what they are talking about .

FRC on Choctaw used to let you rent guns. Not sure if they still do.

Range USA has rentals that you can try at their range. Prices are comparable to most big box stores.

Do what Clyde suggests. And by all means go to a local gun range. Talk to them. Shoot some pistols.
Are you after a semi auto or a revolver?
Remember, a hand cannon doesn’t make an effective shooter. I purchased a Ruger SR22 for my mother. She could shoot the antenna off a bee with that pistol.
Take your time. Lots of options. And a pistol in every budget range.
I’ve been hearing some good feedback on the 5.7x28.
Online dealers: Gunbroker.com, guns.com, Reeds.com, Galleryofguns.com.
Good luck and welcome to the club.

Go to P&D in Walker. You’re gonna pay a little more than the box store but the guy is very knowledgeable plus you would be supporting local, small business

Last pistol I bought was from Academy. Bass Pro had put their S&W M&P for sale. Gun was about $400 give or take and was sale for like $270. I went to Academy and purchased the same gun on price match with 5% off. Academy did call to make sure Bass Pro had them in stock. Walked out the store with a decent pistol for around $250 that day.

Try Louisiana Firearms on Old Hammond or Herbert’s. Both have good customer service and can help you find what works for your situation. Be sure to get some GOOD firearm training for safety and knowledge.

What are you looking for the weapon to do? EDC, nightstand weapon, safe queen, range toy?

Can't even begin to recommend anything without knowing the basics.

Range USA off of Millerville is nice for a chain and you can rent guns to try at their range.

If you prefer locally owned I like Bowie Outfitters on Perkins. They don't have a range though. I like the people at Jim's on Siegen, but I've always found their prices to be a little higher than the others.

Probably closer to range toy than personal defense.
Research I’ve done has me leaning towards Glock 19. I’ll also probably get a .22LR revolver that I can teach my kids to shoot.
This will be my first purchase, but I have a snub .38 my bro in law gave me. I have handled guns most of my life. I’m certainly not experienced, but I’m not a complete rookie either.

If you decide to go to Hebert Guns, unless things have changed, be prepared to be badgered, followed around the store if browsing and sometimes screamed at by store employees.

Recently used BJ Pawn in Denham for a new Glock 19. I'd called several other local places, they had the best price at the time.

FRC and Range USA.

FRC is the place to go for training if you want to go that route as well.

Check out the PSA Dagger then. It's a clone of a gen 3 Glock 19 for about $200 less. I prefer the full size vs. the compact. It fits your whole hand better and gives you 17 vs. 15 rounds.
