New knife day. Boker Plus automatic knife. Got it for my birthday.

First impression - really like it. Opens really quick, and was very sharp right out of the box. The blade is D2 tool steel, which is pretty good for holding an edge. You can get several different blade variations...this one is a dagger blade.

$49.00 at Blade HQ.

Don't know if automatic knives are legal where you live, but if so, you might want to check it out.

I'm looking to add one (finally) - I don't know whether to go value (Boker Plus or Kalashnikov), starter premium (Pro-Tech Sprint), or otherwise stick with what I know (Benchmade AFO-II or one of the Auto Axis models).

I talked myself down from an OTF - at least as a first auto.

Potchafa, did you get this retail, or somewhere like Etsy? I see a lot of these on Etsy. Curious

Obviously you don't clean or butcher. You absolutely need one for cutting joints.

I don't have one in that style but my main kitchen knife is an 11" blade gyuto. Would like something nearer 14" but waiting on Naylor Forge restock his large chef's knife. If you're cooking for a big group around the holidays a bigger, heavier blade makes it easier.

I'm currently carrying a Boker with a brass handle. S35VN blade that I got from blade HQ for around 40 bucks. I like it a lot. I'm glad that it is starting to patina because it looks like a knife that Ceelo Green would EDC to the grammys.

ETA: the blade on mine is black.

I use to carry the mini Kalashnikov every day until I rolled the edge trying to cut a zip tie . It is a great inexpensive EDC.

Damnit! This didn't work for me. Ordered a Spyderco Astute.

I got a Serbian knife similar to this for Christmas. It's from The Cooking Guild. I wasn't sure how much I would actually use it, but I use it for everything in the kitchen except for tasks that I need a skinning or filet knife for. Come to think of it, the only thing I have used a different knife for since getting it is removing silver skin from deer/hog meat.

Personally I like a heavier knife for chopping and prepping meat.

Blade HQ is a great place to shop. I also have a Kershaw Launch 6 that I bought from Blade HQ a few months ago. It's a great knife. It's blade is made from CMP154, which is considered to be a premium grade steel for knives.

Think I paid $106.00 for it.

Love shopping and buying from BladeHQ! I have a Boker Kalshnikov dagger point auto knife and enjoy handling it. There is no safety on mine.

It's a steel that is really underrated these days, basically the contemporary 440C. I remember when ATS-34 was all the rage and 154CM came back because of it. CPM's 154CM is a great steel, definitely a hold out in today's market where everyone is chasing sprint runs of the latest super steel.
