Have any of yall had any success with duck potatoes? New place has a good amount of smart weed and duck potatoes. We are late to the game but have time for millet if we need it...
Do we leave the duck potatoes? Never hunted over it before.

Duck potato is an interesting food source.
At the mouth of the MS river it is absolutely the preferred food for Pintail and Canvasbacks they absolutely love it. Everywhere else I have been it's a potential food but not something I find they go out of their way for.
This late in the game you may still be able to plant Jap Millet and get a decent crop however I would be tempted to leave what you have if you already have water and go with it.

Have you tried broadcasting jap millet on unworked bare dirt/mud and have it come up?

Yes IF the dirt has been fertilized properly.
Without help from chemicals it typically comes up and doesn't amount to a whole lot.

So broadcast 3X13 with it? Don't have time to get soil samples for this year.
It is on some ground that is frequently flooded by the MS so I would assume it is very fertile.

you never know. My land is flooded by the big black and MS river and it typically grows like crap without help.

Triple 13 would probably be your best bet with no soil tests. I’d apply some liquid nitrogen at planting. UREA or DEF fluid, whatever you can get the cheapest. It will take on mud, but would be better if you could go over it and get good seed to soil contact.

It takes a lot of spray with diluted DEF to get 40lbs/acre. 
May look at trying some most soil seeds if I can find a blend.

Looks like its Pennsylvania Smartweed.. We just got the place mid July. Its wrp catfish ponds. Has pumps, but right now its just damp not holding any standing water. 2 large ponds are all smartweed with mixed in duck potatoes some willow pockets .
Other 6 ponds are thicker, more like bottom land woods. We will have to open up some areas in it. Also have a little tupelo gum swamp area. gotten 4 or 5 nice bucks on camera as well.

We plan on doing some Millett this year, at the end of August. We will clip strips or areas, and get it out as well as getting it in the woods where we have some openings.
We are going get a mulcher in there to open up some of the timber areas for ducks and deer.

Good possibility you have marsh deer and wild hogs passing through the property. I'd put up a corn feeder or mineral block and game cams to see what's visiting. Due to Mother Nature and the deer adapting, the breeding season is in September-October.

This is in the ms delta, south delta. Not really marsh, other than we can easily hold water in the ponds. Close to Panter swamp. No hogs yet. We got several nice bucks on cam. Unless its a kid, bucks will need to be 4.5 years old or older to shoot. 140 inch... Lot of soy beans around us, they started cutting corn last week.
