That is definitely a concern of mine with the 28 Nos. Reports of barrels being done in after less than a few hundred rounds is pretty bad.

I've been drooling over that 45-70 Trapper since the Ruger change over. It would look and shoot so well with my can on the end of it.

308, 7-08 (my favorite), 270, 30-06 , really just splitting hairs out to 200-300. If your planning on going for more distance. 7 mag, 6.5 or 7 PRC, 300 Win. For whitetail in the southern region. Just find a gun and caliber that YOU have confidence in and can shoot well and comfortably!

They aren't toast after 500 rounds. You probably won't get half moa anymore but it's still capable of killing deer. It doesn't just start shotgunning bullets everywhere. The accuracy gradually gets worse but I doubt it shoots 3in groups with 1000 down the tube.

Why even bother dealing with that BS? If you don't care about barrel life go full retard and get a 6.5-300. If you do care, get a 7 mag or 280 ai.

I have a titanium Ridgeline and shoot it with the muzzle break. Fully loaded, ready to hunt it is under 9 lbs. It’s a pleasure to shoot.

There are testimonials out there of it not only losing accuracy but the throat erosion damaging bullets enough for them to come apart. If used like a hunting gun then you probably never get to this point, or fire rounds fast enough to contribute to erosion, but for a hunting gun it’s just overkill for overkill’s sake. It only exists so nosler could claim they had the fastest commercial 7, and it’ll likely be impossible to get factory loads for in 10 years.

Exactly why I have a 7mm mag.
The 26,28,and 30 Nosler will all disappear. The 7mm ultra mag is about the same as a 28 Nosler and they don't make them anymore.
