Anyone use revolvers to hunt these days?

Opinions on the new Pythons?

Rear sights would be replaced
QR code so unfortunate

Like a 3” or less for concealed carry. Like a 5” or better for open carry and hunting.

Serious question for what reason have you killed any with a 357? What were the results you didn’t like?
I killed my first deer with a pistol this past season.
357mag shooting a 140gr Barnes at 40yds and it went in the front shoulder and wrecked the insides and exited far side. Deer ran 35-40yd like most deer do that have been shot in the same spot with any other caliber I have shot them with.
I’m thinging of buying me another pistol maybe a colt Kodiak in 44mag just because I want one not cus I think I need it for deer.

I had a 6" Dan Wesson Monsoon 44 mag with a leuopold 2X scope on it back in the 90's. Killed a few deer with it. Used 180 gr handloads.

I have not killed a deer with a .357 mag, and agree it is a viable candidate, however I stand behind my statement that a .357 mag would not be my first choice for handgun hunting

No disrespect but there are tons of articles like that that put a caliber against another caliber and claim one the winner. Even though it’s a small data set of only one deer the damage it done at 40yd makes me believe that it would do the same at 100yd.
I’m not advocating ahooting open sighted revolvers at deer at 100yd I’m just saying I think the cartridge is more than adequate and if I lose a deer next time I shoot one with it I will blame me the shooter and not the cartridge.

That's unfortunate. I have a .357 Mag PistolPak kit and definitely not letting it go.

Fwiw it isn’t a Monsoon. Monson was the name of the town they were produced in.

Best revolvers ever made. I have a .44 and a .357. Both with long barrels. Would love to have the kit with other barrel sizes and the shim and barrel wrench.

if you can’t get an original Python, you’re better off getting a S&W performance center

I agree and I ain’t trying to be argumentative , you are happy with a .357 and that is great , I have never said it was not a good choice, it is not effective or adequate, because it is, I said it would not be my first choice, have you found any articles that claim the .357 is a better option for hunting? And again just asking , what is your rationale for choosing 357 over a .44 or even a .41 mag? I have both a 357 and a 44 and love them both, (I find myself reverting back to wheel guns over semi autos more and more) but when I grab one to go hunting it is always the 44

Not the one I was looking for but a link to how bullets kill

Basically less recoil muzzle blast and noise from the 357 vs the others as well as the ability to change the cylinder to a 9mm (it’s a ruger Blackhawk) and get tons of practice with it.
Not so much one article but just a gradual shift I have made over 12yrs ago watching deer die it first started when I started using a 223 for my kids to deer hunt with. Planned on shooting only deer at 50yd, each shot looked impressive so gradually walked it out to 175yd and they kept dying.
There is a study i ran across about how bullets kill recently I’ll try to find it but it kind of reinforced what I have seen over the years.
Everyone focuses on kinetic energy as being the factor but if kinetic energy was so powerful then every deer shot with a 45-70 would get stoned dead and every deer shot with a 223 at 200yd would travel way far tbe than a deer shot with a 300win mag but it doesn’t work like that.

You may have said already, but what kind of bullets are you using for shooting them deers?

Im going to try to get one with a .45 blackhawk at some point. Just using 255gr lead bullets.

Barnes 140gr factory ammo. Box says almost 1300fps.
It was my first pistol kill so definitely not a expert in the field but I have seen tons of deer killed and tbe damage that was done was equally as bad as just about anything else on the inside.
It’s definitely fun hunting only drawback is walking g to the stand in the morning you kind of drag one leg and square your shoulders up like John wayne

BUFFALO-BARNES LEAD-FREE .45 Colt +P Ammo - 225gr. Barnes XPB 1,500 fps - 20 Round Box
I would bet those would wreck them

I’ve got the Ruger GP-100 6” and it’s so much fun to shoot.

I’ve killed hogs with it
