I'm a new boat owner and I need a battery charger. I'm completely ignorant on this topic so who can help a fellow OBer out? I have 3 batteries in the boat. If you have questions that will help you help me...I'll get those answers for you

I use solar panels from NOCO. Just leave it on and it keeps it topped off. I also have a cheap black and Decker just in case but I never use it.

Get an on-board charger that CUTS OFF when the batteries are charges. Thought the one I bought did, but found out the hard way that it didn't. 2 new deep cycle batts later and I now have one that turns completely off when charged.

I like having an on-board charger. Just plug it in and forget about it. There's lots of brands out there and I'm sure they all will do the job. I have a Minn Kota four bank that stays hooked up to trolling motor batteries as well as my starting and accessories batteries. When the batteries reach full charge it cuts itself off. When the voltage drops too low it turns on. No worries.

You need a 3 bank on-board charger. You get what you pay for.

On board 3 bank charger is the only way to go plug it in and forget about it . I also have a dc to dc charger on mine so when moving from spot to spot the trolling motor batteries as well as the house batteries will get recharged some .

I had a Minn Kota 3 bank charger on my boat and loved it. I also added a Blue Sea "Add a Battery" kit for my house and cranking battery. It worked well and kept everything charged.

Minn Kota 3 bank charger. Price goes up depending on how quickly you want it to charge. I always charge over night so I bought the slow one. It will tell you if have a bad battery. Mine is mounted in the boat. Just plug it in and voila!

Thanks for all the help fellas. Can someone give me a banks and amps for dummies? I don't want to spend more than I have to on overkill, but I want to get what I need. Sorry for the dumb questions. Gotta start somewhere right?

1 bank for each battery, the more amps the faster it charges. I use a pretty low amp charger and the solar panels are pretty low amp also.

I have a Minn Kota 3 Bank (MK 330D). It is a 3 bank, 10 amps per bank, 30 amps total. Been using it for 3 years without a single issue.

Guest or Minn Kota...are all 3 batteries the same type? Are the all flooded, AGM or Gel? This can make a difference in your charger selection...

As said, you’ll need a 3 bank charger. Friends and myself have had great luck with the Minn Kota’s over the years. You can pay more for a higher amperage charge per bank but it’s not typically needed unless you’re a tournament fisher or such.
