New battery for electronics question

Replaced a couple batteries as mine shite the bed. I have an optimum blue top as my stereo, and light battery. I have a min Kota 3 bank on board charger. Everything was charged and when I went to go out, My battery for the radio etc was dead. Figured maybe something was left on. When I got in and hooked up my charger, the positive lead got so hot after a few min, I could barley touch it. I unplugged it and for shits and giggles, I hooked up my reg trickle charger. It shows it’s charging fine. Leads are not hot. Do leads get that hot on larger batteries? The other 2 leads on the trawling motor batteries were not warm at all. Could this be a bad battery? Or a bad charger. All lights on the onboard charger were showing charging. Thanks in advance.

Leads should not get hot. You also have inline fuses on that charger that protects it. If you have the PC model it also had a red led for fault.
I can't add anything else without making you or me look like a dumbass.

They have issues with ones going bad quickly. take it to a store and run a load test on it.

you have corrosion in the lead going to the Optima battery. Corrosion leads to amperage spikes which leads to heat build up.
You did say another charger was charging it up fine right?

Yes the other 2 leads are not warm at all. All 3 show amber light as charging. The fault light is not coming on. I’ll check for corrosion but the leads are pretty clean and I use corrosion X pretty religiously. I put it on a Stand alone trickle charger last night and as of this am it was still charging. I pulled the leads and it was at 12V. I’ll check it and see if it lost power when I get home. I’ll also check wiring for corrosion
I ran a load test and it showed low voltage and AH due it it not being charged.

Make sure the cable ends havent worked loose or anything of that nature.

Dont believe reality, it happens. They honor their warranties though and just swap them out

He also said the battery died without an apparent reason.

Was told by an optima retailer that they can't be charged by a digital charger once completely dead. He said you need an standard charger to get them back up and then use digital. Ditched the spiral batterys and now use delco lead with much better results.

Hook a charged battery up in parallel. Put charger cables on dead battery. Charge for a few hours. Then disconnect parallel battery, see if it raised voltage enough to charge on its own. Some chargers won’t charge what it thinks is a dead battery

The DeWalt charger has a recondition cycle, but the battery won't ever get out of it

Try the parallel thing but like I said before that optimas go bad sometimes very quickly.
