Need Recommendations for Saltwater Fishing

I plan on going to the Rigolets this weekend. I’ll have one rig setup with live bait on popping cork, but I want to also fish artificial. I currently have 15 lb moss green braided line. Will I have the action I need with artificial shad? What is the best way to rig up so I can get the best action?

i always fish live bait. but when i do fish artificial i will fish a vudu shrimp. I know guides in hopedale/shell beach that swear by that under a popping cork.
I dont really fish with much artificial shad baits but i have had luck with a she-dog topwater (its technically not a shad bait) bait but i mainly use that early early in the morning.

Can I tie it directly to the braid line or do I need some type of monofilament or fluorocarbon?

Just swap the artificial shrimp for the bare bait hook under your cork.
If you are tight lining, you can tie directly to braid. Or a leader. Either will work just fine.

You can tie directly to braided line. 15lb braided line is fine. Use 1/4 or 3/8 oz jig head and then put a soft plastic tail on that.
Bounce, jig, hop your jig head + soft plastic off the bottom

Baits are important but conditions are even more influential on your success. Looks like a front moves through Saturday morning early and winds will be blowing hard out of the north with I’m sure a rising barometer. It’s just very tough to catch fish in those conditions. It’ll be a nice day out there though. Good luck!

It requires a tool to cut instead of your teeth but other than that it is no more difficult to cut or retie than mono or flouro.

I fish with 15lb braid to a 15lb flouro leader, tied with an alberto knot. I've been tying it for years and I have never had it to fail. I fish the low-country in SC so what works here may not work for you guys in LA but the Zman Texas-eye jigs and Zman Diezel Minnowz are a deadly combination here. You can slow reel it with an intermittent light jerk for more action or you can bounce it off the bottom, I've had luck fishing it both ways. The Mirrolure Top Dawg or the Heddon Super Spook are my favorite top water lure for the early morning and late evenings when the sun is rising or setting. Good luck, tight lines!

Tie straight to lure. Don’t need a leader for most applications. I will sometimes tie a leader on for throwing topwater baits as the braid tends to get caught up on walk the dog type baits.

I had no experience with braid and decided to try it one year, after a lifetime of mono. I had a dozen reasons why I never used it again, but my retrieve had fish skiing across the water like BASS Masters.
If the fish didn't get dragged in, the hook pulled quite a bit. The mono stretches, and with topwater, that is especially important.
I also had knots and too impatient to cut the braid properly. Just an overall mistake for me to even try. Not to mention the inevitable hang up where you would tighten drag and just pop the line. Good luck with that.

Good artificial lures are Down South Lures, Matrix Shad, lil Jon’s, sparkle beetles, cocahoe minnows.
