A buddy might be selling his Lowe Roughneck Jon boat that's been modified to have front and rear casting decks. It has a two stroke Johnson 25hp motor and is 17' long. I'm not sure of condition as I havent seen it yet. Is anybody familiar with the boat or the motor?

I mean it sounds like a pretty typical little stump jumper boat.

That's not a lot of motor for that big of a boat. Age and hours of the motor are my main concern when buying used aluminum boats. Everything else is easy to fix or cheap to replace.

This! Way under powered. Look at the rating plate on the inside of the transom. That will give you what the boat is rated for. With the motor and a big load, it will take all day to get on plane.

He said it'll cruise around 22mph with him in it.

I would assume this is with no load, gear or other people. And as said before, it will take forever to get on plane. I would want a 40hp+ on a 17' or downsize the boat to a 14-15' and keep the motor. You would get much better performance that way.

Seems a bit underpowered. I had a 14ft riveted aluminum with a merc 20. It would do 25 or so. Would think it would be much better off with a 40 or 50 IMO as long as its not over-powered.
