Hey OB. Want to get a truck tool box to put all my tools that sit in the cab of my truck, just taking up space back there. Also want a big enough one that I can put golf clubs in there on a long trip.

How’s the security on a lower tier model Husky or Kobalt? Is it really worth paying the extra $500 for a Weather Guard which claims to be inpenetrable? Give a rec if you have one. Not a contractor or anything but I do own and carry a bunch of tools for emergencies and shite like that.

Camlocker is the best box on the market IMO. Once you use those twist latches you will never want another brand

I have a black low profile on my truck.

I've had this one on my truck for a year and helf now and still looks/works great. Got it from lowes for about 3 Hundo. I just spray WD40 on the latches every now and then and keeps it working like new

I have a Delta diamond plate low profile that has been on several trucks since 2005. No complaints.

I have an RKI steel one that I got from another poster. It's 20 yrs old IIRC. Nothing has been replaced, and it works just like it's supposed to. I had a Knaack job site box before that, but it was just too big.

I wanted a steel one because they are harder to pry open, can hold more weight, and I was able to weld d-rings on it for two extra tie down points. You can bend almost all aluminum ones open with your hands, and basically every one with a crowbar

Dont get a UWS. I have one now and it's a piece of shite. I had a weatherguard in my old truck that was 20 years old and I wish I had kept it for the new truck.

It leaks, I had to put red loctite on the lid pins so they would stop loosening up, did I say it leaks?

What security?

I got my husky years ago but the lock got so hard to turn after a month that the key broke off inside so it’s still there. The inside components are falling apart and I probably won’t be able to open it one day soon. But hey, it holds my tool bag, jumping cables, a pair of hip boots, knee boots and a fishing rod. If you want the shite come get it

If you can afford it, get a Weather Guard or an RKI.

They aren't really that much more expensive if you consider the fact that you can swap them onto your next trucks. Buy a shitty one now, and leave it on when you sell it, or buy a good one, and keep it for 20 years

Are those J-hooks that are used to secure them to the bed secure at all? Or is some thief gonna come up with bolt cutters and take the whole box?

Need this answered, being from BR

RKI or Weather guard are the top of the line. Camlocker is a good box but expensive. I've sold RKI and WG for many years with very little trouble. The security is not great in the lower line boxes. what truck do you have?

Do you want a cross box or chest box? Black or shiney aluminum or white or black steel? is your truck a supercrew or ext cab? bed size

Cross box. Would prefer black. Crew cab. The smaller bed.

RKI part number is c63lpab -low profile black
Weather Guard is 121-52-01 - lo pro black, thats actually a textured black not shiny black. The heavy gauge boxes stick up higher on the truck rail than the medium gauge so keep that in mind.
