150k. Using excessive oil. Probably mfg issue on that engine. Toyota won’t cover it. Been doing it several years.

Toyota wants almost $8k to rebuild with short block.

Call Jimmy Guthrie at Jimmy's Engine in Ponchatoula. He may be able to price it over the phone. He also has his buddy Gene working back in his shop fairly recently, and Gene is legit.

How long are you willing for it to take? I have a buddy that rebuilt my 2001 V8 a couple years ago. He was strictly working out if his house at the time but is now a shop manager. He still works on vehicles at his house but obviously has less time now.

He's in Central just outside of BR.

I need to bring my land cruiser by to sort some codes out. Been trying to decide who to bring it to, last place replaced my timing belt and it hasn't been running right since.

I’m impressed you found a way to destroy a 4 cylinder Toyota engine in the first place

That’s my thinking. Too expensive so I’ll just keep adding oil. It’s a mfg defect on that engine. I keep calling and bugging Toyota about it. They actually just contacted me about fixing the paint on the 2012. This is a kids car, so it gets driven by kids. It’s a known defect on the valve seals and/or rings but Toyota won’t do anything about it for this year model.

Did you call the dealership or Toyota itself?

Honda local here wanted to dick around with paint issues after my wife's family had all Hondas. I called their corporate people and they patched me into a person in Houston who I talked to and explained everything.

They ended up covering the labor as long as I bought the paint.

I’ve called both multiple times. They finally agreed to cover the repaint (of the messed up portion but I have to go get it inspected). I’m hoping they’ll do something on the engine issue but not hopeful. Sad part is, the car generally runs great most of the time.

Kids oughta drive stuff that burns oil and smokes and stuff like that

If you know that's the problem, you don't need a rebuild. You just need the head reworked or a new head. FAR cheaper than a full rebuild. Can usually be done without pulling the engine so it's much less labor.

Either way, I would do some Google machine work for home fixes. Sometimes you can just change oil type and improve the situation.
