Well surprisingly it's pretty comfortable. We actually ordered a latex for a number of reasons.
what we ordered
what we got

That is incredible wood guy. I don't think I have the patience to build such small and complicated things like that. Your son will cherish that for a life time.

Thats really cool. How long did something like that take?
Posted on 2/4/16 at 8:08 pm to jdavid1
It probably took 40 hrs or so, just worked on it in evenings after work.

Finished up the bed and got it all put together in the room.
Lessons learned:
King size mattress is impossible to move by yourself. I tore a nut.
Just because you have a 5 lb box of 2.5 inch screws doesn't mean you need to use those to screw down slats.
I still can't stain for shite, being drunk doesn't help my ability at all.
Now the wife wants the furniture to match so I need to figure out how to get the poly and stain off the other stuff to stain it to match. Any ideas?

Typical

That sounds like a huge PITA. Tell her to start watching youtube vids so she can learn how and start carrying her own weight around the house!

Well she's pregnant so you can tell her that. I want to live

use a water base paint stripper. That is spray on and a good chance you will remove some of the stain.

Started yesterday hanging Hardie board on the camp/guess house I'm building.
Dam ladder is kicking my butt.

Here's my first cutting board! Although I'm giving it away to a friend for a Honeydo gift. It's maple with walnut and sapele strips. I had my roundover bit too low on a piece of scrap wood that I used my router on and liked the edge it made so I stuck with it.
Attempted to make an end-grain block for myself yesterday but failed miserably. Apparently I missed the memo where you aren't supposed to put eng-grain wood through your planer. Long story short my board broke apart in a few areas so I'm trying to decide what to do with the scraps

If it was just on the end pieces, glue some sacrificial pieces on the end before planing. Then cut them off with your table saw. This should prevent the tear out.

I'm in the middle of building a transmission right now. If it works it'll be the coolest thing I've built.
If it doesn't, welllllllllllll I won't be surprised.

Wasn't just chipping on end pieces though. I'm talking a loud "boom!" and pieces breaking apart. I read online afterwards that you should never put end grain through the planer b/c it could break the planer, send boards shooting out at 50 mph or like in my case, break your shite. I need to check my knives now as well to make sure they aren't completely screwed.

I'm not saying there isn't some validity to that advice, but it definitely depends on the planer. Job site/table top is going to be less effective on them than helical with carbide blades and 1-2hp motor.
I've put anywhere between 40-50 end grain boards through my planer with nothing worse than some minor tear out and one a whole strip of blocks separated bc of a shitty glue up.

Um. Good luck with that. Sand every single piece and restain?

Nice job on the bed Booga.
I built a platform bed like that minus the headboard and footboard for our new memory foam mattress a couple years ago. It's solid as a rock and with the memory foam mattress, you don't feel the other person moving on the bed at all.

quote:Yeah, but you're gonna have to do some sanding because as we all know, stain seeps into the woodgrain and has to be sanded down.

You might get lucky and only have to lightly sand it then apply the stain from the bed and it might match, but I doubt it. Nothings never that easy.
