so now everyone jumps back on the mono bandwagon?
I never left. I only use braid for jigging and frogging. But I also went fishing today and didn't catch anything but a damn gar so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

I use Sunline FC Sniper 8# on my spinning reels for finesse fishing without any more trouble than I usually have with upside down reels.

For baitcasters, 40lb Suffix 832 braid. Depending on the application, either tipped with mono (topwater) or fluoro.
For throwing crankbaits, I do have 2 reels spooled with mono. Both 12lb Trilene XL.
On spinning tackle, 8lb nanofil for bass or 6lb nanofil for sacaulait. Tipped with 8lb fluoro leader on both.

No more mono for me.
All spinning reels have 30 lb braid.
All baitcasters are from 30 to 60 lb.

30lb braid same diameter as 8lb mono. 40lb braid = 10lb mono. No reason to use less than 30-40lb braid for anything. If you're worried about the fish seeing, use a flouro or hybrid leader. No use for mono nowadays other than being cheap.

spinning rods: 30 lb braid/12 lb flouro leader
flipping rods: 65 lb braid
everything else: 14 lb mono

But I always use a leader.

That's a grossly oversimplified exaggeration.
I would not spool anything other than mono when trolling for sac au lait or when jigging for them. It isnt a cost issue, it is a fishability issue. When trolling cranks, you need something forgiving so you dont lose a ton of baits.

Wrong answer . I use mono for fresh and saltwater and have no issues ...

Not a saltwater guy. No ocean anywhere near me. But...
My light rigs, I use 4 or 6 pound mono on ultralight and light spinning rods.
My bass tackle, spinning rods are 8, 10 or 12 pound mono. And my bait casters are 15 and 17 pound mono.
My light catfish baitcaster rigs have 30# hi vis mono. My medium cat baitcaster rigs are strung with hi vis 40 and 50 pound hi vis mono. My heavy duty flathead/logjam baitcaster rigs are strung with 150yds of 100# hi vis braid, over a backing of 60# clear mono. I have 2 12' heavy action spinning surf rods I use for spillway fishing and they're strung with 65# braid.

I have a couple different spinning setups.
1000 class reels for perch, crappie and occasional bass, I spool those with 6 pound mono.
2500 class reels
3 have 12 pound mono for crank baits for bass and reds.
2 have 30lb braid for popping corks with a 15lb flouro leader, I dont want to loose a $6 cork.
2-4000 class real with 30lb mono for Bull Reds, Drum and Big Catfish.

Mono has alot better hook up and catch rate for topwater and suspending plugs.
