I usually shoot 130 gr Federals for deer, but going pig hunting and bought a box of 150gr Soft Pnts Monarch for price and quantity. Not trying to be the best shot just power to take them down. Academy told me they will penetrate better than Winchester 150 gr long range.

Anybody have any feed back? Appreciate it.

I wouldn't use Monarch for anything but punching holes in paper

Any recommendations on good 150gr for 270 for pigs?

Monarch brass case isn't bad, the larger grain weight will make your accuracy be off on the vertical for long shots though. Just be awary that a 150 will drop more than a 130 at long ranges.

Just use the Monarch. As long as it's brass-cased, it won't hurt your rifle.

They're effing pigs. They don't deserve to be shot with expensive stuff. That will do the job just fine.

And just as an aside, my dad shot a pig in the shoulder with a 120gr Hornady SST in 270 (handload) and the bullet did NOT exit. They're tough. It doesn't matter what you shoot them with.

Exactly my thoughts. As far as it being brass cased I am not 100% positive but it says PPU on the casing and I got it at Academy. And it will be close range. I'm even thinking of bringing my 44Mg 6" for some fun at 50yrds.

The monarch will be fine. I've shot a couple pigs with it out of my aught 6.

If it's brass-colored, it's brass. The steel is grey.

The only company I know of that makes brass-plated steel is Silver Bear.
