Northern Adams county. Flooded ag fields. Winter weat and 8 acres millet patch planted.
200 acre field, 30 acres will be flooded using controlled flooding. Don’t know how much more will flood with rain. .5 miles from the Mississippi River. Anyone have any tips on how to
Set up blind or how to hunt? It’s gorgeous land, millet planted in area of field that floods

I would really need to make periodic site evaluations prior to and during cold fronts to be able to make any suggestions!! Lol
But really if you have never hunted it plan on being able to be mobile see where the ducks seem to want to be and hunt them there. To many people try to make the ducks go where they don’t want to be. If the whole place is yours and you are not bound to “a blind” then figure it out an then put a blind there.

From your description you are very close to me.

Set your blind up on the south end of your water, hopefully it is the shallow end.

Your biggest obstacle is the thousands of acres of duck habitat created close to you that is not hunted, you are going to get one chance at the birds before they head to safety with abundant food.

Hunt with the wind at your back if at all possible. You want to always hunt with the wind in mind.

Any advice on how many decoys I should use?
Should I put blind in the middle of Millet or on the outer edges?

The way the river has been acting you might want to invest in a boat.

A dozen dekes should do it. After the ducks have seen decoys all the way from Canada, they get decoy shy if the dekes don't look realistic. A big spread of dekes may make the ducks shy away.

Why do you suggest putting blind on south end of water?

Have you never duck hunted before? If not bringing someone who has would be your best option. If not get to learning.
Those ducks will be coming from the north and will need to land into the wind. Set your dekes up in some some sort loose J or hook patten so that the birds are directed to where your sitting at.
Learn how to call but call very little or not at all is another tip for a beginner.

You’ll be hunting next to a 20k acre sanctuary. Prepare to be frustrated!

If no cover use a layout or small, low profile blind. The “neighbor” some have mentioned owns all them ducks FYI.

You’ll need some layout blinds and you need to be prepared to move based on the direction of the wind. You want the wind at your back if at all possible.

I’d suggest you have around 4 dozen decoys You will want to put out enough to get them interested and you may need to change based on what the ducks want. It will change day to day.

No and Ashland is not in Anna's Bottom.

ETA: neither is the OP if his brief description is accurate

I thought Ashland was on the south side of the sanctuary? I may have it all flipped around.
