Public land only for us. Have some private but didn’t hunt it but this is what we killed hunting from my cabin surrounded by public:
Me 3 bucks 2 does with recurve
13 year old son 3 bucks
12 year old daughter 2 bucks
7 year old son 2 bucks 1 doe

Dad 3 bucks

Brother 2 bucks
Nephew 1 2 bucks
Nephew 2 1 buck

Little below average on size but still a good year on some public dirt. Kids still hunting till the 15th so might add another buck or 2 for them

3000 acres by Columbia, MS. Only 12 kills all season. Saw a ton of does and yearlings. Very few quality bucks and our property is very low pressure. Looking at the mounts from 10 years ago and what we see now is sad. Two spring fed creeks on the property kept the deer there through the drought, or so I thought. Fishing in Dulac coming soon!

I think the deer numbers are getting back to where they should be in SW MS including Jefferson County. Our place borders Jefferson and we had great year with big bucks and are seeing plenty of deer. You just have to shoot em!

Other place on the river was extremely impacted by the drought. Poorest deer I have ever seen. Our place in the hills deer are outweighing river deer by 20%. Weird.

Pear River County
Plenty of does and yearlings. We have lots of spikes and small bucks, on of which was killed by the neighbors. Had one big 10 we've been after since October. Had him on camera not too long ago so I'm hoping he's still out there.
I'll be out there this weekend and during Mari Gras. Have killed bucks on the last days of the season on more than one occasion. Those SW MS February hunts sometimes produce the best rut action.

What part? We’re kinda in between Popvegas and Lumberton. Tons of does and some small racked bucks. The usual.

Central MS (Leake County). More good bucks on camera than we’ve seen in a decade, not sure how much to attribute to us and all the neighbors feeding protein in the Spring for the first time. Only one good buck was taken, by a guest of my cousin’s grandson 3 hours before I got there for my gf’s son to shoot him (he was coming to the feeder every morning). I was a bit salty, where are all these 25 year olds when my old arse is loading a pallet worth of corn before the season?

Anyway, put her son on a whonky 6 point that needed to go, my son on a doe later that same week, two other does taken by the aforementioned young guns. So 5, off right at 1000 acres. We were hoping for 10, but I’d filled my freezer from my South TX trip and never even picked up my gun. We don’t have a ton of deer because the upper Pearl isn’t especially nutrient rich.

As someone mentioned above, when I see some of the bucks in the lodge from the early years, before all the trees wiped out the understory, there were some hosses taken. Looks likely that Cuz is going to sell the property, and if so, I’ll be back to square one next year.

Just a couple chest freezers but they don’t last all that long. Of those we’ve already eaten prob 4+ of them. Won’t come anywhere near making it through the year with those. Last year we killed 24 for my house and that was exactly what we needed finished those off early December and started on this years deer but we eat deer and fish every day. Do not buy any meat at all. We will run out about august if they don’t kill a few more.

Smithdale ms 50 acres
Killed 1 5pt and 3 does. Deer sightings were way down. Everything moved at night. They did thin next to us.

I also hunt Perry County, private land and the NF adjacent. Killed 1 doe. Saw plenty, but no shooter bucks.

For someone that doesn’t own land and hardly gets to go, a record year. Two big does and my first buck. Young 8 pt, but he’s gonna make a fine shoulder mount. Widest spread of any shot on that property this year. I saw deer on all but 4 hunts out of 13 total days, hunting morning and afternoon, this season. Freezers are full. Happy.
Buddy’s dad killed his 3 buck limit after not seeing any bucks for 2 years. Two 8s and a 7. Two of them were killed a week ago back to back days, in the same plot. Actually, all 3 were killed there

We hunt Northern Claiborne County and had the best year we have maybe ever had. We had four kids kill their first deer, three of those were their first buck. My oldest son killed a deer we have hunted for 6 years, his first mature buck and I killed a 5.5 year old 10 (first buck I have wanted to shoot in about 5 years). The rest of our group accounted for 5 more mature trophy bucks and we killed another dozen does. This is on 3200 acre lease with 8 people hunting and a bordering 650 acres three of us own.

Now excited to start taking Haine soil tests and prepare for spring planting and turkey season. Oh and shooting more armadillos and hogs....

were the numbers down in that area? Have family that own a pretty large tract and seems like they kill 5-6 145+ every year. Never heard them complain about deer shortage.

Poplarville

Yea that's the usual for us as well. But this 10 pointer is big for our parts. Shot a decent 8 last year that weighed ~170lbs. We haven't killed a buck that big in a while, they're usually 140ish give or take depending on the time of year.

Buck management has been excellent in the area, and with decreased herd, racks have been great.

Total herd numbers have been down for over 5 years. Coyotes were terrible, and multiple landowners have been working them over with trapping/killing. Our place went from seeing deer every sit to multiple skunked. Last year was better, but this year we were back to seeing plenty every hunt.

Our DMAP reports clearly show that we are in a boon age, the herd has grown AND our weights are UP. Supplemental feeding, doe/cull management, and foresty management in Adams/Jefferson/Wilkinson are on point right now.
