Minn Kota Terrova - What to know before ordering?

I fried my old Motor Guide trolling motor yesterday. Looking at making the jump to Minn Kota Terrova. I have a few questions and looking to the OB for some input.
Are there different versions? Some Terrovas have a grey plate with green lettering on the side and some just have the black and white block lettering. What's the difference? New vs. Old version?
Bracket? is the Minn Kota Rta-17 Composite Quick Release Bracket the standard bracket for the 80lb 60"? any others that I should consider?
Plug? Any input on what plug I should get? I have a chunky white plastic puck looking plug right now and ideally I'd like something that covers whatever hole is behind it.

Whether you need the bracket may depend on your boat. I had the bracket and could not make it work. I had to mount directly to hill.

I went w mk plug option it was better than factory lund. Also went w quick connect plate for motor... its anodized aluminum. Very handy for me because i take motor off in fall for duck hunting. No complaints on either w mk terrova 60" 80lb thrust model

I think some of the photos are of old models. The late model has black sides with white and gold lettering.
I use this Minn Kota quick-release mount.

I use the Marinco heavy plug because the Attwood I had started to melt.

Both the mount and the plug are pricey but buy once, cry once really does apply here.
Add: Get a good breaker too. I use this Bussman. Minn Kota recommends a 60 amp for my Terrova.

Here is the manual to help get you up to date.

Depending on your hull you may need to adjust the settings (boat scale I think). I have a light hull and a 80 lb Terrova motor...until I got it dialed in it was kind of a mess and I initially regretted replacing my power drive. If you accustomed to an older Minn Kota and use auto pilot you will want to adjust the settings to legacy mode and not advanced. Legacy will keep the boat moving toward a point on the straightest line regardless of forces forcing the hull off line...advanced mode will cause the hull to turn and head straight back to the line it was on...say a gust of wind forces the front of the boat 181 degrees off line...the boat will continue in that direction and go back to where it was blown off line....very frustrating. Legacy will merely turn the bow toward the spot and keep moving toward it....it looks for a specific spot, advanced has a line between start and finish and the hull stays on that line regardless of what wind, waves or current does to the sensor...it will just go back to where it got off line and start again.

Rta-17 is right for an 80lb 60” riptide terrova.
Additionally, you’ll want a better plug, like a battery tender, and the minn kota 60 amp breaker. You also should pre plan where you will put the heading sensor to make sure it can get back to power easily.

The white version is the saltwater and the black one is the freshwater.
I got the quick release bracket for mine since I kept the boat in the boat house and wanted to remove the trolling motor for any repairs or ahead of any big storms that rolled thru. It was a simple install, just drilled 4 holes into the fiberglass and took a screwdriver to tighten them down. Took about 30 minutes for my in-experienced self to do. I think the MKA-21 size one is the one that you need. (the white version may be a different mount)
The terrova is a great buy tho, I bought mine used and only had one issue with it in the 4 years I had it which Minn Kota surprisingly fixed under warranty.

Get the Minn Kota plug, it's expensive but when you see it you will know why. One of the best made items I have ever used. Comes with everything to splice onto your wires.
Also the warranty is pretty good if your dealer/service center is good. Mine deployed at 50 mph and the shaft exploded. All fixed under warranty. Be sure to not be dumb like me and not use the clamp.

Ordered the Terrova from Sportsman's Warehouse earlier. Still need to order the Minn Kota plug and quick release plate. Need to figure out where to mount the puck for heading next.

I never mounted my puck, it really only helps following true north and paths on your graph from my understanding so I never saw a need for it.
Another tid bit is the remote is really nice and convenient to use, going from spot to spot within a few hundred yards I just sit back and control the trolling motor from the console.

You can mount the puck anywhere, inside a hatch or whatever. As long as it isn't near something magnetic and you will need power for it.

For those that have installed the trolling motors at home do I need to buy the bolts, washers, nuts separately or does it come with everything?

love mine
just make sure you get correct bracket and install correctly.

The quick release mount comes with everything you need.
You just cut out the back of the box of the mount where it shows exactly how to line it up, line it up the cutout on your bow, tape it down securely, drill the holes with it taped down, put on the release bracket, drill the screws into the hull thru the bracket, twist on the nuts/washers from underneath. Attach the trolling motor itself.
Only part that might be tough is there are washers and nuts for the screws that are put on from under wherever you mount it. That could be a pain to get to.

Battery Tender plug 100000% recommended. My boat mechanic turned me on to them and I’m a huge believer in them now. Plug is sturdy as shite. The screw & lock connector is the best I’ve ever used. It won’t ever vibrate out causing any arching/heat issues.

I have This one from Amazon, it's not a nice looking at other but it's worked well for the past years and I don't have any issues with it.
