Not overly crazy on the cowling but lighter ,better on fuel and easier to do own maintenance.

What's the price tag? I wish they made a 250 with the same weight range as these.

I’m not crazy about the design but mercury is killing it right now with performance and reliability.

Motor looks like an old etec and a 7 marine engine had a baby.

Pricing is right in line with the Optimax line. Maybe even a little cheaper. The 250 is coming, probably at the Bassmaster Classic. It will be worth the wait.

So is optimax dead in the near future?

Hopefully it will be like the sho and you could buy and flash a 200 to run like a 250

ETA: all two strokes will be gone at some point now that technology has allowed the 4 stroke to perform as well if not better than the two strokes. Four stroke engines are just to owner friendly on maintenance and last a hell of a lot longer

I hope not. There really is no need for 4 strokes now with how good the twos have become. Only way I would have a 4 would be on a party boat where sound is important.

That was probably my biggest question on it...

As someone else posted, I'm hoping it can be flashed (once out of warranty ) to a 250 or so like the SHO's.

Looks a good bit more compact than the SHO also...

They will be flashed to 300, like the SHO, I am sure. Not sure yet about the 7K limiter though.

I see that happening soon, but no official word from Mercury yet. They still need a 250 Pro XS replacement. Once that happens, I don’t see the Optimax line living much longer. There’s really no reason in choosing an Optimax over their equivalent FourStroke. Less weight, more displacement, smoother operation, no expensive DFI oil or compressors to worry about, this list goes on and on. I’m pretty sure Mercury will need to use all available manufacturing space for the FourStoke lines. Their orders are filling very fast for the new engines and they still have some more releases already planned for this year. Very exciting times ahead indeed. Mercury and the boating world have a bright future.
