PAC WMA with drop nets, Turkey necks for bait.

We use drop nets baited with turkey necks or sometimes chicken necks. They look like this....
In the center we tie wrap a pc of bait to the net.
When the net is on the bottom the outer ring drops down flat. There's a rope with a float attached on top. We ride by in the boat at about 3-5 knots and pull them up, dump the crabs into a tub. Space them about 200 yards apart. You need time to pull up the net, dump it make sure it has bait, and the tie wrap is tight, throw it back in and get on the next one. At the end of the run we sort threw the crabs and throw back the small ones while we are idling back to the first trap to run them again. We let them soak 20-30 minutes.
Next time I go I'll try to get a video, its my absolute favorite thing to do.

Looks like a good time. Lake rd in lacombe is where we good back in highschool. Go catch a couple dozen and boil them in the kitchen. Would probably never do that now, but it was awesome then.

It's one of those almost guaranteed catches, which makes it an awesome time for little ones and it's stupid easy and not alot of thinking involved making it easy on the adults.
Great relaxing time for all.

I use salt, but really one doesn't need to. That salt is just in case there are others that are on the crabs.

My wife bought me 12. Then I lost one and had 11, then I let my Uncle use them and he came back with 13.....so now I have 13?
I dropped the hint to the wife the that I want another dozen for Fathers Day. However, I don't go back to work till June 11th, its been nice having 2 months off but I dont like having to watch what we spend so tightly..... I still havent touched my savings though.

Thanks for the invite a-hole!
Instead of using a tie wrap, get some of that flimsy plastic fencing and make you a little bait box. We made it like an envelope, put the bait in then tie it. Your bait will last a lot longer and you don't have to worry about them stealing it.

Sounds like a miniature "Deadliest Catch" process.
