Just another tweak in the continuum from the Halon. I am sure these are fine bows, but not enough change for me to ditch the best bow I have ever shot. Just thought some here might be interested.

quote:

Featuring our new extended six bridge riser, this new geometry increases cam efficiencies and enhances the effects of 3D damping. Available in 28” and 31.5” ATA lengths and featuring the longest riser platform we’ve ever built into a mainline hunting bow, the VXR holds like a target bow while maintaining ultimate maneuverability.

So much of new compound bows are just marketing schemes with little technology advancement. They all will shoot straight and kill deer. Compounds aren't getting any faster and most true archery hunters are leaning towards the kinetic energy numbers more so the speed.

With that being said, I upgraded last year from a 7yr old bowtech to a mathews Traverse. No regrets

Do they still make new single cam bows?

I am a short draw archer, so if I could find an easy transaction for my Halon 6, I'd be all over that little one.

mathews Traverse

I was really close to getting the Traverse but ended up with the Vertix. Was sold on the switchweight technology as it's my first bow and wanted to start at 60lbs and work up to 70/75

Reds and Alx, I shot them all thinking I was going to be sold on the vertix. Shot all the Realms, the last new Halon they had, vertix and traverse. When it came down to it I didn't now like how the short axle to axle looked atheistically to my eye at full draw.

I thought for sure that this year they would incorporate the switch weight technology into the Traverse. I'd sell my Vertix if they did. Having said that, the vertix is the best bow I've had...way better than the halon imo.

Completely agree. Would own the Traverse if it had switch weight.

Yeah the newer flagship bows from each company are basically all great bows. The biggest jump someone would notice is going from a bow that is 5-6 years old to a new bow. The draw cycles are so much smoother.

No. I think their last foray was the N0-Cam and it didn't do to well sales wise. They began losing market share to the faster speed dual cam bows and ditched the Solocams. If you want a solocam, check out ebay for a used Switchback XT. I still believe it's the best hunting bow Mathews ever made. It's not a speed bow, but extremely accurate, forgiving, and quiet. It's more about accuracy than speed.

Archerytalk.com classifieds. You'll find a bunch of last year's flagship bows for way less.

Check out Darton Archery bows. They are just as good as the big names, at a lower price. Many of the so-called innovations the big names tout on their bows come from them using Darton's patented technology. It's why Darton doesn't have to advertise to push sales, they get a slice of the profits from many of the other companies that sell bows.

Darton branding looks like Affliction

And I agree with Alx. Don’t see a lot of change initially from these new Mathews offerings.

Kinetic energy takes speed and arrow weight into consideration.

Here is a Calculator

You can kill any deer with a $300 bow as you can with a $1300 bow. Shot placement and momentum is key.

Check out the Darton Maverick XT. Faster, and cheaper than the new Mathews VXR 31.5. Notice how Mathews talks up their switchweight technology? It's a Darton Patent. lol
