It's better than that glock you asked about yesterday.

Go down and shoot both and see which you like

They both get the job done, all about comfort

Glock is preferable IMO.

Don't listen to all the haters. The quality of the M&P is good. One might be better in your hands than another though. You have to use what fits you well.

I thought mine was okay. Then I put the Apex forward sear and trigger on it. Now I love it.

I haven't been here to see the hate for 40. Seems like a good caliber from what I've read. What's the problem(s)?

There is a lot of little men here who can not handle the recoil. It's a good round and I like the power it has over the 9 mm. Just a very versatile round.

Which is insignificant, really.

Care to expound? I'd really like some information or at least reasoned opinions.

9mm is cheaper. Performance difference is pretty insignificant. More capacity with 9mm. Less recoil... not that 40 isn't manageable, but why work harder for the same results?

That's fair. I don't find my MP40 kicks bad at all. Put 200 rounds through it a couple days ago. I love shooting it.

That said I've never owned a 9 so I'm comparing it against revolvers I've owned.

I think the more capacity thing is why people tout the 9 over 40. It really doesn't kick that much harder, and price per round isn't much at all. I got the 9 because that was what was available in my gun at the time. It didn't come in 40. All of the rest of my guns will be 9mm because I can just bring a box of ammo and they will all shoot it. No worry about mixing them up. I have a 10mm too, so I don't need to worry about mixing rounds because they won't fit in a 9.

When it comes to capacity, there isn't much difference in 16 or 17, so just get whatever one you want. If you can't kill something with 16 rounds, you aren't gonna be able to kill it with 17. Doesn't really matter to be honest

40 s&w
135 grain
Muzzle Velocity: 1442 fps
Muzzle Energy: 623 ft. lbs.

9 mm
115 grain
Muzzle Velocity: 1140
Muzzle Energy: 332

Looks significant to me.

9 mm is good for target practice and recoil sensitive people. The 9 mm can do nothing that the 40 s&w can't do.

You can get 9mm in 500+ ft lb loads. Just so happens that you picked weaker 9mm as your example

I don't care for the trigger at all on the M&Ps. I have owned M&Ps, Glocks, Rugers, Kahrs, and XDMs. IMO, the XDM are superior to all of them and they ergonomically perfect, not mention they also have match grade barrels and look better than all of them. I still have my Kahr, but sold the other as soon I got my hands on the XDMs. I recommend the XDM over all the polymer handguns out there.

My favorite affordable handgun.

I liked the comfort and ease of use. Also easy to maintain. It works smooth and fast whether you clean it or not.
