Anyone own one? Or have experience with one? Looking at a mako pro skiff 17 with a 75 for lake, river, marsh.

ETA: bought the boat and having a minn kota trolling motor, lowrance gps, and power pole installed.

Do you have a problem with the actual boats, or just bass pro in general?

Great boats for what they are.

Do not have the illusion that they are the legendary Mako of long ago.... the Mako skiff is in line with most of the cheaper basic no frills skiffs.

Easy to own and easy to enjoy. Fancy show stopper they are not.

Any boat company Bass Pro bought, the quality of the boat went down considerably. So, yeah, the boat is ok but not made all that well.

Any mako built before 1990 is an absolute tank and would be a great boat.

New ones are Bass Pro and shite quality.

I grew up on an old 212 mako.

The skiff ain’t bad for what it is.

So avoid Tracker boats?

The Mako skiff is exactly that. Just a basic simple skiff. It does that well.

Tracker is a basic simple boat line that millions of people get out on. They are great for that. Lots of nicer boats choices. Lots of lesser boat choices too.

Im always super super glad to see folks out fishing in their Mako skiffs and Trackers and NOT at my house stealing my TV.

Will be perfectly fine. You will get a lot of "used to be good, not good anymore" and that may be the truth but they are plenty good enough. It is a 17 foot skiff, it ain't a $1 million plus offshore boat. That said the name may make the price high compared to other brands which will almost identical in quality. The marketing to the masses is high with them being sold by BPS - as such the initial price is probably higher which will carry through until the thing is being used as a pine straw catcher.

I had a Mako 25, 1975 model, that I restored myself from the transom to the bow light. Hung a bracket on the back and twin Evinrude 250s. That hull is widely heralded as the best center console ever built - and I would certainly agree that it was nearly perfect. It was sailfish slaying machine and it crossed the gulf stream at least 50 times in the 24 years I owned it. That hull is so well thought of that I made money on the boat when I sold it after fishing it for 10 years after the complete restoration. The new Makos aint that but they are certainly good enough.

The issues on the pro-skiffs seam to be mostly wiring. If you getting a good enough deal that you can budget in a rewire job go for it.

Those things were reasonably priced when they first hit the market; you could buy a Pro Skiff 17 for around $15K. I think they're twice that price now.
