I've never personally owned a boat, but I've driven many of them tons, borrowed, etc so I know a little bit. I'm looking for a bay boat, around 21' that will be used mainly inshore with a little bit of shore fishing around the grand isle area. I know this is a bad time to buy but I've been scouring fb marketplace, fb louisiana boats for sale group, and louisiana sportsman. I've been reading here a ton and think I've narrowed it down to pathfinder, frontier, nauticstar, kenner. My budget is around 40k max. Am I in doing it right?

Thursday they had a super clean 2016 skeeter bay boat on la sportsman with a 150 Yamaha with 180ish hrs for 38500$. Plenty of extras too. Given the market, I thought it was a fair deal

Also, I have a 2016 nautic star 224xts. Love it. I know it’s not a blackjack or shearwater but I’m happy with it. Wish I would’ve went 250hp but still happy.

ETA. Here it is

40k is a good budget for a used bay boat.

I have no problem with your list but you should know that Nautic Star and Pathfinder are on opposite ends of the spectrum for build quality and price. I like both brands by the way. I am curious as to how you narrowed it to those particular brands.

What specific features are you looking for? Also do you want a lighter faster more efficient boat to run in skinny water or a heavier deeper boat that rides better in rough water?

I’m heavily considering selling mine right now that fits your description. 21’ NauticStar below 40k.

Those are all good brands in that size bay boat. I think you’ll find one in that range just look everyday and be ready to buy it if it checks all your boxes.

I really didnt have a preference of brand. I'd like to have one that has everything I need without having to do too much. I'd like something that I can take the kids out on, mainly in bays and march, but also some freshwater around here

and of course, something well under 40k would be preferable

I know where you can get a very clean 22ft Champion with Yamaha 250 and Ttop. I think for 35

My experience with friends and having recently purchased a bay boat is this. Whatever size you are looking at, you need the next size bigger

Storage and layout are way more important than you realize until you have one. It not a deal breaker but it is a small thing that can become a real annoyance. Sometimes the only way to get what you need is to have that extra 2 or 3 feet.

I have a smaller boat 19' bay boat Skeeter ZX20 Bay. I like it, my first saltwater boat, first fiberglass boat as well. I like the boat but could always use just a little more storage

The skeeter that was posted looks like a nice boat. I would likely replace the trolling motor with an iPilot, though the one it has seems fine to me.

The boats you have listed are good ones from what I have seen. Think the Frontier would be close to the top for me of those you have listed. Good luck on the search and enjoy whatever you get
