Give me your recommendations. This will just be an all around gun, not for a specific type hunting

I see the Beretta A400 being mentioned pretty often. I still use a Benelli pump which has been flawless.

Budget?

Benelli montefeltro is the best value in general purpose shotguns IMO. Spectacular shotgun.

The new Auto 5's are nice or a vintage Belgium gun would make an awesome gift. Timeless perfection.

Franchi or Benelli Montefeltro for all around good gun and not the high price point of a SBE or A400

In the $1000-1500 range. Semi-auto

Ones on mind are SX4, A5, Gold, & Versamax. I own or have shot most of these. Is there anything else out there that’s comparable

ETA: I shoot a Versamax but haven’t bought a new shotgun since 2013.

Check out the Silver. Basically a Gold but with semi humpback and better feel to me. Love mine.

Sx4 or Franchi affinity 3.5. If you’re spending a lot of money Sbe3 or Browning A5

I pretty much neglect my sbe2 every season. It gets hunted in the marsh and thrown back in the case way more than it should. I will clean it a couple times a season and that's it.

That gun has been great for me and if it was stolen, I would go buy another one tomorrow. The only problem it has given me that I can remember was when I was shooting hevi-steel. That stuff is junk.

I like how slim the benelli is vs the gas guns, fits me better. My experience with Franchi is that I bought an I-12 and it was a lemon. They eventually ended up buying it back from me. Though, I know a lot of people like them.

Bought the brand new Winchester SX3 12 gauge when it came out in or around 2013, and it has been a great gun for hunting and skeet shooting. It took about 70 or so rounds to break it in, in regards to ejecting the spent casings correctly, but after that, it's been perfect. Keep in mind that I clean my guns after every hunt and every shoot. IIRC, I spent a little over $700 on that gun.

At that time, I was looking at the SX3 and the Versamax. Could have gone either way, honestly.

Don't know what they cost now, but these are very good guns in the sub-$1000 price point.

Yes, you are free to spend twice as much or more on Beretta or Benelli.

Or you can spend less and get a beretta A300. They are only about $900 and a montefeltro is about $1100.

I dont understand why anybody would think about this for more than a few seconds. Those are tremendous values.

I haven't shopped for guns since then, so perhaps a more current opinion like yours is what the OP needs to hear.

I would go with the Winchester SX4. Will be my next gun if I ever buy another shotgun

A300 and Montefeltros are nice guns as well but are chambered 3”. SX4 has the 3 1/2” chamber
