the best advice I can give is to compare the scopes you are interested in at the same time looking outside.

Spend the bucks and get a Zeiss diavari vm/v 3-12x56. It'll last your liftime and you won't want any other scope. Probably cheaper in the long run.

I will definitely agree that a Zeiss Conquest is one hell of a deal. My dad put a 3-9x by 40mm on his .35 Whelan (primative weapon). He loves it.

I have a Redfield on my AR15. I have to say I'm very pleased with it. Redfield is now made in the Leupold facilities, although they leave the quality down just a bit to keep the Leupold as the top one.

Mine is a 4-12x by 40mm and will hold 1/2'' groups all day from my AR. No regrets. ($219 from Academy)

Anything above a 40mm is a waste as that the human eye cannot utilize much above a 5mm exit pupil.

The Nikons are nice, but they will be a bit heavier and bulkier than a Leupold of the same power range.

Leupold seems to still realize the a rifle scope is a device for aiming a rifle and not a telescope or a replacement for binoculars and for the most part, their lines seem to reflect that philosophy.

Zeiss Conquest.... You'll never want another Leupold in you're life, much less another Nikon

they are too $$$$$ for my pocketbook.

Buy the highest quality scope you can afford and stick to either Leupold or Nikons if you can't afford over $400.

Zeiss Conquest.

If I had to do it all over again I would get a Zeiss. Their glass is better than Leupold in my opinion. Spend the extra few dollars and don't like back.

I have nikons and leupolds. The leupolds win by a long ways.

Another little tid bit. I know a guy whose house burned down recently. The only scopes that survived the fires were leupolds, and he had zeiss and swarvoski scopes in there as well. Leupold is sending him some new ones. Lifetime warranty FTW.

This weekend you can get a Zeiss Conquest from BPS for $350. Unbeatable deal IMO. Its a 3-9X40, but I'd be willing to wager that it still lets more light in than any 50mm scope in that price range.

Best deal out there hands down.....I run some nikons and a 50mm Zeiss and just put this scope on a rifle and love it with DNZ gamereaper base/rings......BTW check the DNZs out I'll never use anything else

I've got both and prefer my Nikon. Neither one is really brighter than the other. You can shoot well past legal hours with either one.

This for sure, my buddies have them and they are amazing. I'm going to replace my buckmaster with one probably this season. Just debating on whether or not I want to get the one with illumination to help with hog hunting or not.
