Usually do a family beach vacation, but looking for an alternative. South Louisiana or MS where we can wet a line, throw some crab traps out and hang out. No boat.

Any firsthand recomendations or a place I can easily search for what I've described?

I'm gonna stick to state parks. Cypremort Point probably will have what you're looking for. It's on Vermilion Bay and will have some saltwater fishing, but from what I remember, there may not be individual access to a pier. I remember the one common fishing pier. It's a point (they weren't lying!) so it's a short walk to water really anywhere on the point from a cabin. I think some have porches out over water.

If you're looking more for hills and forest with freshwater lakes, Chicot is more your speed. They DEFINITELY have cabins out over the water.

ETA: Sorry, Chicot is closed. Apparently, that's where we're all gonna get sent once we get COVID.

I don’t have any particular camps to recommend & don’t know what part of the state you’re targeting but I’d check out Big lake, leeville, point aux chene, and grand isle. Tons of camps to choose from.

Look around slidell in the lake or bayous near there. We just returned from a house rental on Geoghegan Canal.
We fished out of boat mostly, but kids caught catfish and red fish off dock in boat slip even. Did not catch ton of crabs but Caught some( we did not try very hard)
Also looked at a place around there on Bayou Liberty on bayou with a pool but we needed bigger place.

Thanks for the responses. I worry about a state park and the state shutting them down due to the 'rona.

Find a camp on the beach on Grand Isle and you can surf fish and set out crab traps.

No way I’d go to a state park right now they are doing weird things as far as shut downs and limited hours. That could be like that for 6 months or more.

It may be too close to Nola for you but there are camps/houses on Lake Catherine available for rental. North of Lake Borne near Rigolets that you have docks to crab and fish from.

There’s a camp next to ours in cocodrie that has a deck on the pond behind it and comes with a canoe and paddle boat to fish those ponds. Let me see if I can find a link to it.

Welcome to The Reel Deal, located in Chauvin/Cocodrie....Sportsman's Paradise!
