You're just about a foot taller than me.

Worked out a pretty good gun deal. Trading my malfunctioning .280 for a Rem 710 30-06 and I keep the scope from the 280. Buying a 2 month old Rem 700 270 for 400 and have a scope to put on it.

I used that rifle for 5 years and killed a ton of deer with it. It will serve as a good back up or something I won't mind bringing in the rain.

The new triggers on the 700's are both externally adjustable and pretty freaking great. First time I shot one I was stunned. Right out the box it was great. Breaks like a glass rod. Just beautiful. No need to change that trigger these days. Not that you ever needed to but adjusting the old one's was something the average dude shouldn't have tried messing with because IMHO that's where those discharges all came from.

The X-Mark Pro (I belive that's what Remington calls it) gets good reviews - I guess I'm going to have to break down and get one - I'm more of an SPS, stainless, .308 guy, as I don't have any particular plans to shoot Bambi. I want to make holes in targets and have the gun fill a contingency role "just in case".

I like the Winchester rifle triggers (and I'm probably in the minority) - I don't know why - they just seems more predictable, out-of-the-box.

Tikka T3 270WSM

I had a 30-06 previously and I have no regrets.

If you like aftermarket modifications, do NOT get the X Bolt. There is 0 aftermarket support for it

For most hunters there is no need for modifications. They come with a great trigger and stock from the factory. Mine is very accurate too. Not sure what else I want for a hunting rifle

X Bolt is one of the few rifles that I wouldn't want to do much customization. The stainless/wood stocks Brownings are some of the best looking stock guns to me.

I'm not really into tricking out guns. Especially one I may shoot 2 or 3 times a year if I shoot it at all.

I have a Timney on my Model 700 22-250. It is sweet. It lit up quite a few prairie dogs in SD.

Only thing I may do is the trigger just because I have an issue with jerking.
