Get a good drop point skinner in carbon steel and learn how to sharpen it. The art of sharpening is slowly being replaced by changeable blade knives. No one is going to remember the Havalon tbat their powpow handed down to them.
For everything past the skinning rack it’s hard to beat dexter russels.

I bought a Buck knife set and it had the 3 basic blades. Metal frame grips and blades, easy to wash and sharpen when necessary.

I'd swap out that old hickory skinner for a Dexter Russell if I were buying a new one. The one I have has some sentimental value to it, it's hard to beat a high carbon steel blade for skinning, but a polypropylene handle is definitely better than wood.

Thanks for all the Rec’s I’m looking at them all. I wish I could shoot a few things and test a few out

Old Timer with guthook on back of blade.

New model is 158OT

I have a few of the older ones which are much easier to sharpen.

Very hard to beat for a decent purpose built deer cleaner

I use a Havalon Piranta and a DR skinning knife for heavy cutting. I saw a commercial for this set from Havalon and may give it a try for $70

There's no way that kit can not be junk. With that said, all you need is a simple sharp blade. It need not be heavy nor thick.

A 6" Boner, either stiff or flex from Dexter Russel will clean and process deer all day long.

Seperate everything at the joints, and you don't need a big blade.

The most demanding spot is splitting the sternum, and even that isn't really totally necessary.

If you want to, get a meat saw for cutting through bone roasts and splitting the sternum.

I am interested in a full set too. That’s what started me looking at that set for so cheep. I just don’t want to use my kitchen knives like I just did. A good skinning gut knife seems Is key I can do most of it with 1. But it has to stay sharp or be easily made so.

I’m trying to get to were I’ll just process myself. Grinder and sausage stuffer and so on.

If you want a minimalist approach, get a knife with a gut hook, if you're looking for a kit, keep the gut hook separate from the skinning knife.

Outdoor Edge Swing Blade, may be something to look into, there's even RazorPro that offers the changeable razor blade with the gut knife

I think I’d rather have the hook on my main blade for less shite to have. But I’ll add a boning knife and a few other tools for a make shift “do all kit” at this point.

I have one with the carpet hook and a havalon . Makes quick work of pigs and deer. Blades are sharp and cheap.

[quote]Those Raptor Razors looks like they will F you up lol

The best ergonomic design that I’ve ever used. I love them. I timed myself at 10 minutes to skin, quarter, remove straps and tender loin all without gutting the deer.

The men are all here talking about knives and you're thinking about wieners.
