Target and small game firearm. Want accuracy and reliability and decent value, nothing over $450.

Something I can hand down when my time is done.

I have a Marlin Model 917V with the heavy barrel and thumb hole stock and can shoot your eye out at a 100 yards.

You could chamber a broomstick in 17HMR and it would still shoot 1 hole groups. The cartridge is that inherently accurate, doesn't matter the platform. As Chat suggested, the CZ falls within your budget and is a very nice rifle.

My wife gave me the Henry Golden Boy 17HMR and I love to bust a coyote with it. Like a .22 on steroids. We shot it and her Browning 22 this weekend.

It was about $525.00 without the scope I believe. Those Remington 22lr shells are from Keeth’s Sporting Goods in Jonesville and are probably 30 years old.

Drop a rifle basix trigger in it and watch every bullet go in the same hole off a lead sled

That’s my question. The a17 seems appealing but is a 17 something you really should get in bolt action I want one but just don’t know enough about them

Personally, I think the 17 HMR is better suited for a bolt (or possibly a lever, depending on how accurate a Henry is). One of the really fun things about semi-auto rimfires is burning ammo. 17 HMR ammo is much more expensive than 22LR ammo. I've got a Savage bolt in 17 Mach 2 and my son has one in 17 HMR. Both are plenty accurate. W/ your price range, I'd also consider the CZ model 457. This is a new model w/ a few improvements over earlier models, including an American type safety. I've got a model 457 in 22LR in the #1 position of my "bucket list." If you want a CZ model 455 you better hurry as it's recently been discontinued by CZ.

I already have the savage 93R17 TRR-SR( bolt action)

It's a Tack Driver...I put the Sweet 17 scope made for 17hmr on it...It's pretty damn accurate with the sweet 17.

My son puts the spent 17hmr casings on the target stand at 100yds and shoots them off easily.

I'm sure one could put a much better optic on it...but I can't justify putting a high dollar scope on a plinking gun that only occasionally makes it out the gun safe...

1+. I see you got a downvote. That confirms what I've thought...there's someone out there waiting to downvote everything. Bet this gets a downvote too.

yep, you called it, you too got a downvote; seems like we have a serial downvoter on the OB
Back in 2002, I had the premier rimfire GS in the U.S. build me a full blown custom 17HMR. My addiction is super accurate, custom built rifles, primarily the 17's and 20's. What I soon learned is that $300 rifles chambered in 17HMR shoot just as good as my $1800 rifle. There are several cartridges that are so inherently accurate, it doesn't matter what the rifle is - 17HMR, 204 Ruger, and 6.5CM. The .204 and 6.5CM were basically cloned from previously designed cartridges.

I’m a sucker for the CZ rimfire rifles. If you ever get a chance to shoot one, you’ll see why. Here is my CZ 452 .17HMR. It has a 5 minute trigger job that eliminated the creep and is set at about 1.9lbs. Blast to shoot and accurate as all get out.

Not sure if the cost or availability now days but my son and I each have Ruger 77 in 17 hmr. They’re tack drivers and the rotary magazine fits flush with the stock.

What scope do you have on your CZ?

Believe it’s just a Cabela’s pine ridge 6-18x40. It was made for the .17hmr line years ago. Nothing fancy but works fine.

I put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire on my CZ 455 22LR and it works great.
