You can buy "crayfish" in bait vending machines at the state parks where I'm from...just like night crawlers. You'd get a dozen for a couple bucks in a Styrofoam cup with a lid. Usually 2 to 3 inch length and grayish brown with soft shells.

They are great fishing bait...I've caught all manner of fish on them from pike to bass to panfish.

used to kill chinquapins with baby crawfish in north LA. also, they worked great on white bass and barfish in the basin. even caught a few giant sacalait on some that were a little bigger. the bigger ones work on bass and catfish on trotlines

How do you rig them for bass? Under a cork?

Where will you be fishing? Stream? Pond? Lake?

In an Ozark stream, I usually hook them through the tail so they have a natural presentation and add split shot about 18” up the line and tight line them.

True

We also use to rake ditched for the baby crawfish and use for perch bait. The baby softshell ones were even better!

For catfish, you're better off peeling the tails on large crawfish. This is the only way my father fished. Neck and I used to buy crawfish only to peel the tails and cast them into the Ms. River. Most expensive catfish I ever ate
