That's promising. I wish he'd just update his old rods with new tech blanks. It's hard to find new rods that I like because I prefer a shorter butt with cork grip.

I'm looking for a casting rod that'll throw lightweight stuff but still has backbone, and this sounds like what I'm looking for. Most of my stuff is St Croix but they don't have the right specs for this one.
ETA: Yikes, it lists a 14.75" handle on Tackle Warehouse. That's ok out of a boat but I kayak fish a lot and it's a pita on a kayak. I may try it and cut it down.
I have an Avid saltwater that I love, but it's a ML spinning setup. I have an MF Avid X on a baitcaster for bass, and in addition to the micro-guides (it was a failed experiment for me) I don't find it remarkably different than the Premier I have. It's not bad enough to get rid of but I wouldn't buy another one.

I had a Denali N2 that was superb. 7’ MH Fast. Used it for tx rigged soft plastics. Unfortunately after years of use I broke it. Replaced it with the newer N3 and while it’s a great rod, I don’t like it as much as the N2. It feels cheaper.
Hard to beat Dobyns, also.

There's always a few discussions of best rod for the money going on at BBC. You will see a wide assortment of brands mentioned like you do here. One from late last year caught my eye due to the number of similar recs for the Daiwa Tatula TTU series. I've never handled one, but they get a lot of love over there.

That must be from top of reel seat or some weird measurement. I'll take some pics at lunch. It's not a super long handle by any means

Rods are one of a few things I’ll never buy online. I have to put it in my hand and get a feel for it. Also thoroughly inspect them. I have an assortment of brands because there is no one size fits all for every application.

Used to be that way but the supply chain shortages have made it damn near impossible to get so much in hand these days and tacklewarehouse.com makes it easy to return. Free shipping and return label in the rod tube should you need it.

I’ve used just about every major rod company out there. My least favorite was Duckett, Favorite,Denali, and St.Croix. I’m very particular with my rods and have found that I always go back to my Dobyns and Irod. The Irod Genesis III is the best bang for the buck at $150 IMO. They make a rod for just about everything. The 7’5” Fred’s Magic Stick, 7’2” Stone Cold vibrating jig rod, and 7’10” Bama rig special are always on my deck. Dobyns Champion Extreme 784ML jig rod is another favorite with a Carolina rig, fb jig, and single swimbait.

Here it is next to a tape measure and an expride. The handle length on TW is to the top of the foregrip it looks like. From the trigger on the reel seat to the butt, it's right at 10.5" and from butt to top of cork is right at 10".

Appreciate it, I may give that one a shot. I've got a new JDM Zillion that needs a better home than the Avid X. I will never have another micro-guide rod again.

It's currently on sale at a couple of different places too:
Halo KSII Elite - $112 @ Midwayusa.com (only 1 in stock though in this model)
Halo KSII Elite - $130 @ Sportsmansoutfitters.com

$120 with tax, on its way. If it's as good as you say that's a nice deal; appreciate the heads up. The Zillion is really good with weightless stuff and I need a rod to match.

JDM Tackle Heaven. I've used Digitaka before as well for a Luvais before they started selling them here. I've looked at AFP but never ordered anything.

Have you made the BFS plunge yet? The US market rod offerings don't really fit my needs (looking for shorter rods than the 7' and longer offerings). But I know there are lots of other options if you jump to jdm gear.

One of the new Expride Bs is a 7'2 Medium Light, should be a good pairing for a BFS reel

The curado, zodias and exride lines all have essentially that same rod I think. From what I've heard it's really nice, but I'm looking for something under 7' due to how I fish. In the jdm exprides, there are several sub 7ft bfs options I'm looking at but I've been hesitant to pull the trigger with it coming from overseas. Nervous about the shipping.

Well, maybe I shouldn't say never. That seems pretty convenient. I may be willing to give that a shot.
I didn't realize there were rod shortages, too. I haven't had to buy one in a while.

One I don’t see mentioned very much is Cajun Custom Rods. I have two of their rods and have been very happy with them. They make their own blanks and have a wide selection to choose from.
Check out Cashion Rods as well if you haven’t already.
