Edging sure does make a huge difference. We're edging this week

ETA: why did the grass die? Foot traffic standing water?

My back yard has bare spots from the dogs where I can literally see dirt. I've also got dead patches, about 1 foot in diameter, scattered around the yard (apparently, dog urine causes this).

Can you recommend a product, or products, that will take care of this issue? I've looked around at various websites (Scott's, Vigoro), but there are a variety of fertilizers, and I'm just not familiar with all of the vocabulary. Hoping for something simple and effective. TIA.

What type of grass?

You're in for constant maintenance with pet urine. Just one of those things you'll constantly fight uphill against

Did you copy and paste from the OT thread?

Train the dogs to go in a corner of the lot.

I did copy and paste! After I posted over there, I saw this thread...can't hurt to ask around, right? I'm too lazy to re-type everything, though.

Bootlegger: I have Centipede grass in the back yard. But, if I'm not mistaken, it seems like there's also St. Augustine in large spots. Does this happen often with newer neighborhood developments (~10 years old)?

Most newer neighborhoods I've seen either sod with St Aug or hydro with centipede/ carpet. Very possible I reckon. Have the local feed & seed run a soil sample. That'll tell you your pH and if you need lime.

I'm in the same boat in the strip of grass by my pool that the dog runs. Its pretty much just a mud path.

I bought some more centipede seed today and plan on laying it out tomorrow but I'm skeptic since besides putting up a plastic fence there no way to stop the dog from running that path.

Also redoing the landscaping in my front yard, bought about $200 worth of retaining wall stones today. I told the ol lady to spray it all with weed/grass killer for a few days first but she never listens.

Spent about 6 hours yesterday pulling weeds in the flower beds and re-mulching... Went through a little more than a cubic yard of mulch.

Now my yard I have no idea where to start on that. It has it's on ecosystem growing. I don't even know what kind of grass I have.

Yeah I laid it down last night, I had a brain fart and didn't bring my trailer to HD...my truck suspension was screaming mercy with that pallet in the back. I let the wife measure so ended up buying about $30 too many so I get to bring that back today.

I'm thinking about straight round uping the dirt and all that's there to kill the grass that overtook it, then put the barrier down and topsoil on top or if I should just put it all in the ground. Not really sure the best way to do it.
