Saw this on the O-T. Video in link.

KPLC TV EYEBALL NEWS

quote:

A crawfish farmer in Jeff Davis Parish shot video of a huge snake in the Fenton area after seeing it emerge from one of his crawfish ponds.

“It was every bit of 12 feet,” Kalob Deaton said. “It was halfway across the road.”

Was just seeing this thread in tOT, interested in seeing the ODB's opinion on this one. Y'all think that thing is a rat snake?

Darrell would have been a dead sonofabitch if it was to be seen by my eyes.

Just seems too fast to be that large of a snake.

Yes They are very good climbers.

Hard to judge the scale of it. Certainly a large snake. I have caught exactly one over 6’ and it was a stud. 7’ is certainly not out of the realm of possibility but to say it’s over that especially over 8 I dont go for it

This 100%

Damn sure isn't a rat snake. I see and handle 6-nearly 7" black rats every summer and this snake is WAYYY larger than those. Too much girth, plus you can see the markings on him well enough to see he is some type of python.

My dad killed a chicken snake, a while back that was 8’9”. We skinned it out and nailed the skin to dry on a 10 ft piece of paneling. Longest native snake I’ve ever seen

It is most definitely a rat snake. We have western rat snakes over this way which can be variable in color but many look just like the one in the video and can climb very well

Decent sized rat snake in small trees that don’t show scale filmed via potato. A python as big as they claim it is would be fat as hell, rat snakes are built exactly like that and make climbing look easy.

Decent sized rat snake.

Oh, and some of the posts in this thread are why I rarely believe anything I hear about wildlife sightings anymore.
