Client just left my office with a 7.4 in his cooler heading to German's in West Lake he caught yesterday morning. Fish was in great shape under bubble maker and he plans to release after measuring for mount. Anyone ever done it this way? Guy is the darkest Redneck i have ever dealt with

I carry a measuring tape in my tackle bag. I don’t even like putting big fish in my livewell for that long. I sure hope the fish makes it.

Did he also catch a 7.9?

Good for him. But why not just measure the fish, take a picture and release it?

Do this next time.

Measure length & girth. Take pictures.

Taxidermist can replicate exactly. Even if you have a pic and length then taxidermist can approximate everything else.

Nice bass! Will look great on the wall

Yeah but then you don't get to ride around to all your baws' offices with a big ole fish in an ice chest.

that fish probably has 2 lbs worth of fillets on it...just saying. My podnuh fillet a 9 lber last year and it had over 3 lbs of meat on it.

In other words, you could go buy the same weight in catfish fillets for less than a pack of worms.

Said he did a skin mount last year of a 9.1 that came out poor and didn’t want a second one. Fish looked good when he picked it up to show me.

The only place he’s releasing it is in the grease.

No sarcasm. If I kill a fish I'm filleting it.

Trash fish.

7.4 from Lacassine to most of the folks I fish around would not be considered a fish to mount. Just release it for maybe a double digit down the road. But to each his own. Basically keep under 4lb if you want to eat some and let 4lb and up go. Even your double digit fish just measure, snap some pics and put her back. No need to keep a fish over 4lb.

You're preaching to the choir BMB, personally, it would have to be a fish of a lifetime to consider a skin/replica mount.
My boat releases anything over 4# whether it's a guide trip or personal.
