One of the dirt roads / trails through the woods on my deer lease near Ft Polk is named Cougar Rd after a confirmed mountain lion pic on a members game cam from 10 or so years ago.

If I saw that walking into my bow stand one morning I’d scream like a little girl

Maybe native is not the right word. There is no known breeding population. There is passing through.

They were native to the entire continent until extirpated. Slowly making their way back East from the West. Lots of game for them to eat, and hunting is mostly outlawed due to low/non-existent numbers.

Males tend to wander.

They should release some in BCNWR to rein in the piggies.

I'm sure that would be a smashing success, but have you now read any of the social media posts about panthers in La? Every woman west of ellick has either seen 3/4 or has one living in the woods behind their house. Still plenty of pigs.

No, but I have seen photos of cougars showing up on game cams in West La. No black ones yet.

I saw one in De Soto parish, hunting years ago. It was 200 yds from me. I didn't get the gun up fast enough and it was it out of sight. I could see the hips and long tail through the scope before it went in woods. We had a guy claim to see a black one and another saw a mountain lion like I did.

Reminder that LDWF's official position was those cats dont exist in Louisiana for many many years, until the police were called out to shoot one out of someone's tree near Shreveport in Nov 2008.

That was about the time I saw it. It was quite a few years ago.

I never heard of one in Hamburg. Are you talking about the one in Hermitage?

We heard what sounded like a female mountain lion in heat in Union county about 16 years ago. Sounded like a woman screaming. Everyone in our lease heard it and what we pulled up online was what we heard. None since and no sightings, but after that one was killed less than an hour away, I have no reason to believe it wasn't.

That would mean a female and AGFC says no evidence of a breeding population. I'm no mountain lion expert but I've never heard any recordings of male mountain lions that sounded like what we heard.

Everyone knows the taxes that panthers pay to live in Arkansas is cost prohibitive to raising a family there. That's why they just visit from over the border

My dad told me that, "painters" as the locals in Vernon called them, were fairly common back in the 30s and 40s.
