I fish out of my sit in all the time and have zero problems. I take a lot of gear and have more room than I need. I can't imagine anyone needing more room than I have and use.
Also, I have never come remotely close to flipping mine. I even stand up in it to fish/piss sometimes.

I need to work on my pissing technique out of my yak. Closest I came to flipping it so far was when I was trying to take a whiz.

Mung may not be able to fit....

I've got the flipping part down pat. Pissing...not so much.

I just flop mine over the side. Easier than standing up.
Sorry i made your SIK sound inadequate diesel.

I'm afraid my yak would flip if I flopped mine over the side. It's not that sturdy.

I just wanted him to know that a sit on isn't his only option. My buddy has an $1800 hobie sit on that I hate. It doesn't track worth a shite, its slow, you get soaked on it, and its cramped. Although I haven't been out in one, I really like the diablo sit on tops. Very spacious and stable but probably really slow. Same as the kajun kayaks.

How do you choose between sit in and sit on top?
Good question. Here's the answer: if you are going to be doing any type of manuevering in "big water" where waves may come over the top, you want to get a sit-on-top because they are self bailing.

I wish I hadn't. Now I want one
Do it! then we can start Team Manta Ray like the Ascend dudes.

Very cool boat! But, yeah, they are pretty damn slow. Would not be paddling that thing too far.

Nice. There's a new one on Ebay for $799 plus shipping.

I went fishing with group of guys that all had hobies. They were much nicer than my Ascend, but also were all well north of $1,000, whereas mine was much, much less.
IMO, if you have money to spend there are better options than the Ascend, but for under $500 they are about the best out there.

My buddy has the peddle drive hobie and I really don't like it. That's the one I was describing in my post above. It has some nice features, but I like my ascend better. And mine was 1/3 of the cost of his.

I never fished out of one, but they were hauling arse while I was struggling to paddle back against the wind. They looked nice, I should have said.

Okay, diesel I'm sorry but I have to get some actual reasoning on why you like your assend better than a mirage drive hobie that has 10x the accessories, access to fishing gear, hands free paddling so that you can fish while moving, better stability and over all much better quality materials than an ascend. Yes, the hobie is expensive and heavy but I guarantee you can't cover nearly as much water and you'll be twice as tired at the end of the day after working for to get to your fish rather than just fishing. If paddling is your thing than that's fine, but the hobie is fishing machine. I can totally understand if the price is what you don't like about it because that's absolutely why I couldn't buy one.
didn't realize you posted this above:

tracking- you'll cover twice as much water a day and be able to fish that water while covering it in a hobie
slow? I just flat out disagree with you and I've fished with many people who use these, you can't out paddle a mirage drive. If you can, it's only off the get go.
you get soaked on it- i don't even get soaked in my ocean kayak.. if you're worried about getting wet, put in the scupper plugs or don't go fishing
cramped- how is a sit on top more cramped than a SIK???
I am in no way a Hobie fan boy, don't even own one but these criticisms are uninformed and ridiculous.

What I like about them is the storage features. I don't need more space, but they have lots of smaller, separate compartments that are nice.
The peddle drive is cool if you are in open water, but in shallows or stumpy areas, it sucks. Also, it let's a lot of water on the boat.

I really disliked how many casts I could get in before having to paddle again.
