I've been hunting off 71 for the last 4 years. 4 years ago we limited almost every hunt with teal and greys, killed around 250 birds that season. The last 3 years have been bad. Maybe 50 ducks killed in each season. Mostly killing teal, ringnecks and mergansers. I've lost hope recently and haven't been staying late.

area has been in decline for years. new development, an injection well, lost WRP acreage, conversion to cane. a couple of landowners adding way too many blinds, increased traffic in area fields all play a part.

15 years ago at sunset from any wide open view you would see 5-10 k ducks zooming. Now maybe 2 dozen if that. Talked with a Nat Guard Helo pilot that flew over whole area the other day, on one 1300 acre tract he was more deer grazing than ducks.

I had 3 teal and two wigeon Sunday morning. Passed on two easy groups of spoons trying to get my 6 non-spoon limit. I should have shot

I kid you not when I was guiding, the most excited an adult ever was with me was a guy from SD that shot a very mature full plumaged "bull spoon" on the last day of the season here.

Some people love spoonies and mount them. I mean they are sort of pretty but an odd looking duck. In these parts people usually pass on them. As for mergansers, some people also mount those. I wouldn't eat one though. Might shoot one on a slow day, talk about a crazy looking bird.

I will shoot both with a smile on my face, but ring necks and smiling mallards are shite ducks.

Lacassine lodge, a lot of their property borders the NWR.

Anyone seeing any in N Mississippi. Around Belzoni/ Greenwood area. Made a few trips to Hillside amd wasn’t much.

Scatters are starting to get some
Ducks.

What I’ve noticed is when we get ducks, they are very educated. Guess all we are getting are older ducks that have seen it all before

I can confirm that there’s 900,000 poule d’eau in southeast Louisiana, that survey is legit

lotik I'll put straight checks on the numbers being way low and lower than long term avg across the board. Since Larry Reynolds is no longer over it.

Where are they? I sure could use a good smoked Pouledeau and oyster gumbo.

Aren’t you around Raceland? Go talk to Jay Duet, see if he’ll let you go clear out Chouest’s ponds

It also mentioned :
quote:

Though not
enumerated in this report, substantial numbers of bufflehead and COMMON GOLDENEYE were also
observed in multiple locations throughout the southeastern coast.
