They're flying the normal routes back and forth, back and forth, trying to find enough birds to even count....AND, like the rest of us probably saying to each other, "where the hell are the ducks?"

At what point do they concede the population is in decline?

LA has been a desert going on a decade, ARK is a shell of its former self, MO not for behind. Kansas and OK are declining and becoming inconsistent.

Sure, the flyway pushed west, numbers were there to prove it, then it was well they just don't come down because its not cold enough. Well are they just not coming down at all now and just staying in Canada and the Dakotas?

I get a lot of factors go into this, habitat, AG practices etc. but the 40 million ducks they say are here have to be somewhere.

If they were flying south of the nets they’re wasting their time.

Saw a pic of a group hunt in Oklahoma with what looked like an 8 or 10 hunter limit. So you may be right there. Went out Saturday evening and Sunday morning and got one teal. Not good. Also went out in the 20 degree weather a couple of weeks ago and got a whopping 5 with 3 hunters.

The won't admit pop decline because they don't want to change days/limits because it loses them money
And DU and Delta won't be able to tell all their donors how they created more ducks for them

In my observations this year in South LA we've had more ducks than the last 2 - doesn't mean you will kill more ducks though

There are still plenty of birds up and down the flyway they are just refuge hoppers - fly out of refuges at night to feed.
They also hold on the big acreage private places that are managed well where they have spots where they can rest like White Oak Duckwoods or Lacassine Company

We have a lot more in our CENLA area than last year, but if there aren't many people hunting, you jump them, then they find a safe spot and don't move.

PROVE IT!!! I've heard this^ bull shite for 15 yrs+/-. Why don't I hear and see ducks moving at dusk, pre-dawn and at night anymore if what you say is true?? Why are ducks ONLY on these refuges and "well managed private spots"?

Because they are left alone with plenty of food and there aren't 5 blinds every 200ac

I'm not saying there are as many ducks as there were 15+ years ago though

How do you want me to prove it? I've seen telemetry data from ducks that leave lacassine refuge and fly to eat at ag fields at night - some north of I-10 and then are back at the pool before morning

I've also seen some where specks were flying from South LA to Ark every 3 days depending on the weather

Talk to some people who hunt in Missouri - their duck numbers are up but the hunters are complaining about lack of ducks the last couple of years. They have an awesome refuge system that they put lots of money into but that's where the ducks stay most of the time

What do you think it is?

I'm not agreeing with the previous poster, but his guess is just as good as anyone else's.

I agree that rotation of refuges should be done from year to year.
